Excessive Urine output during afibs

Has anyone here had a HUGE urge to urinate during an AFib attack? I have had 3 afibs ( two of them sent me to the ER) and one minor one...but each and every time, the urination was uncontrollable. I could not stop going till my heart converted ( a few hours) I must have gone Gallons....the dr did not seem to listen to me when I told him there is some connection to the afibs and the Urinating! Please help, it is scaring me .....I am now on Tambocor 2x day and see a cardio dr Feb 18th. 2011  Thank you Diana

I ended up in the ER two weeks ago when I had the cycles of urination urgency while I was in the dentist chair in part of the procedure where I had to wait to go.  By the time I got to the restroom it was too late and I was in full stage Acute Urinary Retention.  It wasn't until my next two episodes that I made the connection to my a fibs and recalled that it had happened to me before but I had not realized the significance.  My urologist has over 30 years experience and is highly rated in our area but he told me he had never heard of any connection.  My a fibs are associated with dehydration and stress.  I had purposely resisted drinking anything before going to the dentist, so I won't do that again and if that doesn't do the trick, I will excuse myself.  But, there are places where toilet facilities are much less available so I need a more adaptable solution and I'm still working on that.  Al

What does the dentist use for pain control while working on you?  My afib was diagnosed while I was "under" for a colonoscopy.  She. I came around I returned to sinus rhythm.  I wondered I'd the anesthesia prompted the event.

I find when I have a panic attack (induced by palps) I have excessive urination as well. During this time my heart is very erratic...maybe it's in a-fib (never diagnosed or picked up on event or holter monitor)??? Also I notice when my bladder is full (really full) and I do urinate, my hands hurt! I have done this my whole life...and I think it is the nerves in my hands releasing...so my theory is my bladder is pressing against the vagal nerve and when it's no longer full, all those nerves are no longer stressed??? May sound crazy, but I'm trying to figure all this craziness out...the doctor's don't seem to want to, so I'm on a mission for answers:)

Interesting to me too.  I have complained many times to my doctor about having to urinate frequently during my sleeping time  (midnight to 8 AM).  There is no strong evidence of an enlarged prostate (yes I know that's a male only problem) and I have tried two prescription medications for enlarged prostate just-in-case.  They didn't help.  I'm now trying Toviaz which is intended to reduce bladder disorder (forget what it is called).  So, my primary care doctor knows I am in permanent AFib and has never made a connection with my urination problem. I don't recall if I have discussed with my cardiologist, seems I should.
My ventricle rate is controlled, I'd estimate my HR is below 80 when sleeping, but I don't know - well I have wore a monitor in years past and nothing was said about tachy during the night.

As for gallons, I don't see how anyone can output more than the take in.  So, maybe one should drink less fluids... yes, I know we need a large amount to be healthy, but not "gallons".

I hope I am not too much off topic, but I did want to share my learning from reading this thread, thanks.

Ditto for me too Diana with the other posters that i experienced that as well.  I always wrote it off for myself to common sense that when my heart sped up so much that everything else in my body would speed up too which to me makes sense which would explain to me why i went thru that.   I used to think about the rest of my organs when i went into atrial fib and what they were doing...were they sitting idle in my body, were they reacting to the faster heart rate like my mind was doing during the episodes...i never personally looked into it medically speaking but it always made sense to me that it would happen.....ya got me on that one.tho.....

I would urinate alot it seemed like every 2 minutes when I was in my Afib episodes. It seemed like I would just get done and I would have to go again and felt like it was the first time I went.

The atria, when stressed in various ways, produce a hormone called Atrial Natriuretic Factor, which, as you might guess from its name, induces a lot of peeing:

If you research this, you will find a link beween a-fib and the production of this hormone, though the nature of the connection is not agreed upon yet.

Same thing happens to me.  Also happened when I had a bad episode of SVT.  Seems like I read somewhere that it's not that unusual.
