I think that one like Jenny said is up to your doctor...the flip flopping with the urge to cough is the bodies normal method of trying to re set the electrical activity of your heart and is common in most of us i believe. Mitral Valve Prolapse in most cases is as Jenny said usually not a major issue until later years unless there is something else going on and an echo may just very well catch whatever it is that is causing this to happen to you and i also agree w Jenny that the holter monitor would also be a great tool. Call the doc and ask them if 8 weeks out could cause a problem for you or if you know that you won't have insurance maybe the county you live in would cover the cost. In matters of the heart my humble opinion is not to wait....who knows what could be hiding behind that cough..good luck...
Gracious, I cant remember the terms right now. For me, having the same stuff, along with a near faint episode, first they did a 24 hour holter, then a 30 day event recorder, and then they did the ultrasound of my heart. MVP is not dangerous from what I understand unless you have major valve issues. I wish I had your answer, but ask your dr. how urgent this is. How long have you had it?
