Stress test result

Hello to everyone, i want to post my experience here to see if i can get an answer from a doc or anyone that has experienced the same thing

i am a 29 year old male, recently started to get back into sports. I played some soccer the other day and felt a flutter in my chest, when i checked my pulse it was not regular and seemed to skip a beat every so often. I had no problems breathing, no pains etc. It subsided on its own after a couple minutes. It was some scary stuff but i rallied thru and did not panic. it happened again this week and it scared me this time because i panicked and was not calming down. I asked my friends to carry me to the hospital but my the time i got there i was normal. I decided to go to a cardiologist wednesday this week and we did the stress test. I got up to my predetermined target heart rate of 191 very easily, no breathing complications nothing, graph showed everything perfect. When i sat down to recover afterwards tho i got the same flutter and told the doc to check me NOW. he kept asking if i was ok repeatedly and looked a bit more concerned but i was breathing normally, i knew my heart was irregular because i know what happens when i get the flutter. But if i do not chek my pulse i would not know what is going on because i dont feel any difference in my body, such as short breath, light headedness etc. I do not get any flutters or arrythmias that i am aware when i am at rest or working. this only came on when i started to play the footbal two weeks ago.
When the doc explained what was happening he frightened me a bit and called it Exercise Induced Ventricular Tacchycardia. He put me on Coreg and told me its to calm the heart but i told him that this is not something i experience all the time and it only happened when exerted myself so I dont think i should go on that prematurely.   he also wants me to do an echo cardiogram and some blood tests which i am going to do tomorrow.

1) can smoking and alcohol cause this
2) can this occur as a result of lack of fitness?

thanks for your help

I'm interested in exercised induced VT; meds PM/ICD have not corrected mine and it drives me nuts that no one can explain why; is_something_wrong where did you find your info?

"3 - Polymorphic VT due to ion channel disorders (LQTS or CPVT) - your doctor would have seen that too" what would show up on the stress test?

anything I see with Polymorphic VT I read and would love info on - that's the first I've seen of this and I've questioned my doctors to no end and still have no answers.

If you find an answer starboy81 can you please post and let me know what your doctors have said? =)

well i did the echo cardiogram and I have an normally sturutured heart with no issues. so we have ruled out that part. now its time to do the blood tests to see if its a mineral issue that can be rectified. The doctor mentioned EP to me today so that we can get rid of the problem once and for all. after we see the blood test results we will see what is going on

Probably no doctors in this forum, you should try the Expert forum. Anyway, I can try to answer some of this.

VT is usually a concern if it is sustained. If it happens during exercise, it can have one of four causes.

1 - Severe lack of blood to some parts of the heart (usually followed by angina pain, though) or bad circuits, see answer above.
2 - The benign "right ventricle outflow tract" VT (your doctor can see this on EKG if it's the case). It should always be investigated, though.
3 - Polymorphic VT due to ion channel disorders (LQTS or CPVT) - your doctor would have seen that too.
4 - VT with no reason, can sometimes occur in healthy hearts.

Echo should always be done in the setting of VT, to find out if there are any "intra-cardiac" causes for it, such as old infarcts.

Good luck, and please keep us updated.

1)  generally no.  VT is generally caused by a bad circuit in the heart.
2)  no, VT is not fitness related.  See above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Do you know if the VT was polymorphic?
Was it a sustained VT (longer than 30 seconds) or non-sustained VT?
