Is profofol safe with NSVT

Hi I am scheduled for two minor procedures next month and dr wants to use profofol.  I have never had this drug before and I have had NSVT show up on monitors before (4 and 5 beat runs). Cardio and electro physiologist both have told me my heart is structurally normal,so nothing to worry about.  Of course I have skipped beats almost every day so I was wondering if you think the profofol will cause any problems?  Dr says I will have an anesthesiologist with me at all times during procedure but I will be out for about 45 minutes.  I am so afraid of being put under.......so my heart is already in a panic.

Thanks for your time!

I don't sip it.  I chug it as fast as possible before it gags me.  Take a deep breath, and go for it all without breathing.  Isn't it one 8 oz glass of stuff, followed by 2 or 3 glasses of water?  Ahh, the "pre-show cleansing" can be almost humorous.

Well praise God! I got through it.  Prep made me feel very sick so was only able to drink a small portion but they said it still worked!  I was scared to death all the way up to going to sleep, but had a wonderful dr, anesthesiologist and nurse who talked me through.  The next thing I remembered was asking them, why are you all waking me up?  Still sore today from stretching they did and biopsies and had a low grade fever last night, so still a little worried but thanking The Lord the main part is over! I remember when they said they were putting the good stuff in the IV I just gave it to God and said it was in His hands! Praise The Lord!

The drinking one AGAIN but I am going to ask about the Miralax because OMG I hated it. I couldn't get it all down either even though I tried. It was awful :(

I used that the last colonoscopy....made me gag, bit I got it all down.   I had three scopes in a 10 year period. I preferred Phospho soda, but it was taken off the market.  That stuff really cleaned you out fast! Boom! :-)

I am having the upper and lower done.....which prep are you using? The last time I had the big jug but couldn't get it all down....so this new dr told me to do miralax prep....I am hoping it will be easier to take and not speed up my heart like the other did.

I am going to have a colonscopy in a few weeks and get Propofol as well, I've had it before so I already know how it works. The way Tom described it is exactly right!

I concur with dolphin8088.  Propofol is a really nice way to be sedated.  I've had it a number of times, and can only compare it to the feeling of having one too many drinks, only it come on really fast; a momemt of dizziness, then you're awake again.   The effects wear off very quickly, and within 5 or 10 minutes, you're feeling like yourself again.  Do not fear this anesthesia!

I have had a run of NSVT after taking a medication for weight loss, I also have PVCs and PACs daily.  As long as the anesthesiologist is aware of your skips you are fine. And that particular drug does not put you totally under, its a twillight. It is also what they give for colonscopies etc so its nothing like Gen.- Anesthesia.  You will wake up very peaceful and happy with little to no after effects.

Don't freak out, like I said, its not being totally put under, this is just like a sleep :)

Hi -- I don't know about this particular drug, but I think with the anesthesiologist you shouldn't have to worry, you will be more closely watched.  I went to schedule my colonoscopy and the doctor said because of my afib I would be safest under anesthesia -- my family doctor agreed.
