high pulse rate

I am a 24 y/o female with a high pulse rate that i've noticed starting a little over a month ago.  My resting pulse rate is usually above 100, when i get up to do something, even walking around it can get between 132-144, and when i go up a flight of stairs after taking my dog out it's usually around 176.  I know this is absurdely high and have already made a doctors appointment but want to go in prepared and knowing at least something about it. I have ulcerative colitis and recently went through a bout of diarrhea for 2 weeks but am no longer dehydrated as i'm still urinating and drinking plenty of fluids.  Plus the diarrhea stopped at least a week ago.  I take sulfasalazine, a multivitamin, iron sulfate, and florastor probiotics regularly as well as currently taking metronidazole just for the last few days.  I take my blood pressure after taking my pulse and it's fairly normal ranging from 110/78 today to 130/70 last month.  I don't work out as my time is consumed with school and i spend most of my days sitting for long hours in lecture.  Caffeine doesn't appear to make a difference as my pulse is high whether i've had caffeine or not as well as i've been a caffeine drinker since college started and this was not an issue in the past having a pulse rate in the 70's-90's previously depending on the activity.
Thanks for your help and advice.

If you are seeing a GP, you may want to have he/she refer you to a cardiologist if you are not satisfied with the appointment.  It does not seem that any of the medications that you are on have side effects associated with high heart rate.  However, you should definitely discuss each of the individual medications (even herbal and natural products) with your doctor and particularly discuss product interactions that are sometime not observed when taken individually.  Also, talk to the doc about starting to do a bit more exercise.  Good luck.
