night time fast heart rate

I need to know is...this has only happened to me like 3-4 times within a year and only at night but I get suddenly rapid heart rates. I feel my heart is pounding out of my chest, so I freak out thinking im having a panic attack or something is wrong and it can last from couple mins to 3hours. It can happen when im just laying down in bed or it wakes me up out of no where. My doc did diagnose me with anxiety and little high blood pressure, can this have anything to do with this?

Seldom does hypertension or a higher blood pressure set off a rapid heart rate...we are talking two totally seperate issues here...the heart beats come from the electrical activity of the heart ......the heart is the main pump of the body and when our hearts get a little testy on us it is generally electrical based...i would def. watch what you put into your body after about 8 at nite....no caffeine, no colored sodas, no chocolate, no energy drinks or gatorade type of products...drink lots of water and remember that nitetime is the one time that all of us as humans will feel our hearts the most...its common...it is quiet, there are no distractions and all we have is our own thoughts and darkness as we lay in bed...good luck to you and i hope you feel better soon..............

my doctor says my high blood pressure is not high enough to be on medications and  far as my anxiety goes she doesnt want me on medications either, she recommends to see a therapist that will help me learn ways to calm anxiety. I also started working out and eating healthy to see if that help. I did explain this to my doc but she doesnt say anything but could be due to anxiety or having little high BP.

Has you doctor prescribed any medications?  If you have high blood pressure a low dose beta blocker (and low cost generics are available) could help lower your BP and also lower your heart rate.  This is something that requires a medical prescription, it is not an over-the-counter medication.  I am not a doctor, just suggesting you may want to discuss with your doctor if your condition continues.

Good luck,
