Almost 6 months post ablation

As the title says I am almost 6 months out from the ablation for SVT (AVNRT).
I thought I was cured as I had been SVT and palpitation free for 2 of the 6 months. (boy did I love those 2 months)
Arggggg how I was wrong!!! The last couple of days I have been getting the odd palpitations here and there and didn't give a passing thought to them until about 30 minutes ago where I had what seemed to be a short run of SVT??? It was quite a hard but short run, nothing more than a minute or so but does this mean that I will have to book a new ablation?

After my first one the cardiologist did say that it was a 50/50 that I would need another one as he couldn't burn deep enough as the pathway was quite deep in the heart muscle.

Anyone have any thoughts to add?

Thanks Tom and Lisa for your kind words. I guess I am just at the end of my tether here.
The palpitations have started to crop up again with one short burst of SVT. I am also having problems after exercise with heartrate staying high upto 5 hours after the exercise is over. After exercise it also feels like someone is sitting on my chest, strange that it is not before if during just always after.
Lets see how long it takes for me to get through all the tests.

So sorry to hear this!  You were doing so good too.  This time though, you'll know the drill, and it hopefully it'll be easier for you.  Hang in there!

ok So my local cardio called me today, says he wants confirmation of new SVT so am now waiting for a new portable ECG machine.
Can't believe I have to go through the whole rumba again, even though the other cardio said It was 50/50 that he would have to go in again. If your cardio comes out saying he did the ground work I think it more than likely means a 2nd ablation :(

Arggggh

Well I think I can say with some certainty that I will be going for another ablation.
Since the short run of SVT I have had loads of palpitations. But as in usual me style I plough on through and today decided to go to spinning class. 45 minutes of pure hell....lol
The class itself is great, but the time after stinks big time.

It is now almost 5 hours since the class finished and my heartrate is still bouncing around the 105 mark!!!
It feels almost like a fluttering in the chest. Blood pressure dropped down 83/63 for a while but it now back up to 100/74.
Could this be exercised induced Afib? it felt very different from my SVT attacks.

I am not gonna head to the hospital as our A&E closes at 10pm and would have to take and ambulance or drive myself the 40 minute drive. If it gets worse then I will have to.
I contacted my cardio on Thursday and he is gonna call me tomorrow so lets see what he has to say. I have 2 cardios' one local that can do the tests here and the EP/Cardio who is the one who performs the ablations (4 hours away)
I hate having to deal with 2 different people as I feel as the message gets lost but I can't do anything about it as my EP study and ablation are free.

It feels like the heartrate is settling down a bit now although some palpitations are frequently happening.
I am so tired of this as I was 2 months SVT/Palpitation free and have to again go through this procedure....arggggggh
I have applied to study at the local university. I have totally decided to change my career, my job right now is Business English language trainer but have now applied to study Hotel, Restaurant and tourism management OR International business. I have 2 entrance exams coming up end of April so seriously need to get this fixed by then. The next time my EP/cardio is in town is 16.4.2011.
I really am sorry about the moan but I am really down right now. I feel that everytime my life starts to go in a more positive direction something just has to shoot it back down.

I too have experienced the sporatic quick runs of SVT.  They last a few beats and shut down.  My EP advised that is normal.  That is your heart trying to go the old pathway figures out its not there and shuts down.  I get them every few months.   Hopefully you don't need a second ablation and they catch it on a monitor for you and give you some reassurance.

Welcome to my world after my ablation...once i hit the four month mark i felt good to go but had the same thing happen to me a couple of times....i have never had to go back for a second procedure...took the wait and see approach and here i am ...i did have the doc put me on a low dose of antenolol to avoid those random episodes and it worked for me....just to take the edge off and stop em in their tracks.....if it keeps acting up just do a follow up with the doc either by phone or visit...they have to be the ones to assess this...<3

Thanks for the replies, I think I will take a wait and see approach. It just took me by surprise as I have been free of any event for the last 2 months and thought that it was a success.

If it continues then I will definatley call my cardio.
Just so happened that my mens started today so the change in the hormones could have been responsible for that.

Thanks again

Just thought I'd add my two cents worth to what jaspers said!  I too had an ablation for AVNRT SVT last May.  For the next six months I continued to have short "tachy bursts" as the cardiologist called them.  I wore a 48 hour monitor which did capture one very brief (three beat) event.  The doctor felt that what I was experiencing were runs of PACS.  Like jaspers said, the dr. said that as long as these episodes were brief and terminated on their own it was nothing to worry about.  My longest one lasted about 20-30 seconds, but again the doctor said that was nothing to worry about.  He did prescribe atenolol, a beta blocker.  At first I was resisitant to taking medicine but finally relented and am so glad I did.  The atenolol has pretty much eliminated the annoying runs that I had been having.  So hopefully yours is nothing worse than mine, but of course do contact your doctor is the problem persists.
Good luck to you!
Annie

Hi

I have had 2 ablations for the exact form of SVT as yourself. The last one was March 2009 and I still on the odd occasion get a burst of it that lasts no mire than 30 secs probably less than that but makes me stop in my tracks.

I was told that these shirt bursts are common and if they terminate themselves then this fine as it shows that the signal can not travel down the pathway due to it being ablated.

It took 2 ablations as the first resulted in a 5 min burst of SVT but that was 2 years after the procedure.
Mine always starts with what feels like a missed beat then it starts the rapid beats.

I would keep an eye on it and if you get more episodes speak to your Dr. They don't tend to go straight to a 2nd ablation without evidence of the SVT returning which means going through all of the usual ECG 24hr monitoring etc.
