You can have one and even other testing but it all depends on what happens after the leads are placed.
For example - a CT or Xrays will show any blockage, kinks or other possible problems but after they implant say you don't keep your arm down as instructed - this could lead to problems after surgery and the lead rising.
I can't say because I don't know what type of complications your mom had?
You may want to ask in the expert forum also and ask one of the dr's there to see what they suggest =)
I was told by my Cardiologist that I could have a Cat Scan before the implant and that wold tell them if I would have lead placement complications.
I had a pacemaker/icd implanted after I had a cardiac ablation. The implant itself was relatively easy and uncomplicated, but I have lead placement problems.
The only ways to determine if you will have problems is the skill of your surgeon and your body. There is no way to know if you will, but there's a very small chance with any surgery of complication.
Search around for a dr who can do your implant; and ask alot of questions about how many they've done and what their success rates are etc.
good luck =)
I think there is no way any of us can answer your question with any confidence. But, I will offer that the chances of you having the same physical (as I read you post) complication is very small. Of course, I have no knowledge of what is involved in making connections to the heart, but I do understand that it normally can be done. I know personally only two people who wear a pacemaker and neither had or have any problems with the connections./operation of the devices.
