well ever sence i have started with this med help thing i started keeping track of my bp on april 6 2010 up to now may 12 2010. i still have problems with low blood pressure. with the medicane im on now it goes up but it does not stay for long. like 30 min later it will just go right back down. and i still have problewms with low heart rate. but when i was in the emergey room they did ekg and it was normal i think that all of them were normal. but i still have problems. but im still on midodrine 5 twice a day i have been on it for about 1 month and 3 weeks but i don't see much of a change. but i have knowdes that i don't get dizy or lighthead that much so that a good thing. after i run out of my pills im going to go back to the doctors but im going to see a different one this time. like in march 28 2010 i went to the hospital by amublens and i found that when i was on stredo pill called fludroctisone 0.1 mg tablet. i was on it for 15 day and then i called my dr and told them it was not working and he told to stop take that one and put me on midodrine 5 tablets. i called on tuesday march 23 2010 and on march 24 i stop the another one and start the new. so four day i wnet to the hospital. and i found out that my passtomis was 3.2 that dr at the hospital told me that its be i stop taking fludroctisone 0.1 mg tablet. that is why my passotmis go so low. so 2 day later i went back to the dr and he still did nothing for me. so i guess i just have to live with it.

ahhh then it does sound like you may have problems with your ans - it's important to find out what exactly he's treating you for so you can learn about the condition and treat yourself accordingly

without knowing what exactly it is, they may hope midodrine will treat your symptom of low bp, but I would want to know what it is

once you know, then there may be tips, advice etc that better suits you - each of us are different and what works for one may not work for the other - I have NCS/OI - for me salt loading makes me sick to my stomach, while others, it doesn't bother

if you haven't, you need a full cardiologist work up outside of an ER, and then possibly a neurologist if you do have ANS problems and the cardio dr doesn't handle it

I was lucky, my cardiologist & EP both knew and treated ANS problems - some drs have never heard of NCS or OH, OI

depends on what the different meds they gave you, some can counteract midodrine - what meds are you on? there's alot of reasons your bp/hr could be low and with NCS & OI it's normal - btw are you taking midodrine 3 x daily? I think that's how they normally prescribe it since it's short acting med (4 hours)

ty for your help. i justr had more blodd work to see if my potassium levels came up from 3.2 but i called my dr and he has not called me to tell me. im thiking about going to see another dr at my southwest medical build in las vegas nv. because im not happy and im still having problems with low heart rate when i was at the hospital my heart rate was normal. but when i use my mom blood pressure machine at home it show that my pulse is something 50 our lower. but the medicane that one now is not working to too. it brings it up for a while but then later it just goes right back done. and i don't work out. my mom thinks that i should go see a heart dr guy to see whats going on. when i was in the emergecy room on march 4 they did an ekg and it was normal. right now im getting to the point were im starting to hate dr again. well im new hear just to let you know

did the dr tell you why he put you on midodrine? was there a specific cause like autonomic disorder or neurocardiogenic syncope or orthostatic hypotension something like that?  if not, you can always request a copy of your medical reports and gather info from there

it's important you find out why he prescribed it - were you dizzy or fainting before the midodrine?

I have ANS dysfunction - NCS and OI, I've tried midodrine, 3 times a day and even that with alot of other things has not helped much with my symptoms.  ANS problems can be very perplexing even for doctors and hard to treat.

We do have a Dysautonomia - Autonomic Dysfunction community here if that is what you find out is wrong.  There's alot of info and great people who can help there also ---->  it's on the right side under related communities if you find you want to browse there also :)

Many of us with ans problems have used - salt loading, fluids, gatorade, soups, bed raised about 10% at head, rest, meds, compression hose; abdominal binders, most importantly finding what triggers your specific symptoms and learning to cope with them and avoid what you can.

Dysautonomia is the umbrella term for which autonomic disorders fall under.

Feel free to pm me or ask questions if you need anything.

It all depends on what's causing the low blood pressure.

I think you should be treated and diagnosed more aggressively if you are having symptoms like passing out.

It can be caused by low heartrate (which is a good or bad thing dependent on why), it can be caused by low ejection fraction (low pumping force in the heart, this is a bad thing, but more common in older people, heart failure and valve insufficience), it can be caused by low resistance in your blood vessels (a good thing), and of course, slow sympatethic response in your nerve system.

In your case, it seems your fairly low blood pressure can be caused by low heartrate (bradycardia). If it's not done, the first step is probably to capture your bradycardia episodes on ECG. The easiest way to do this is probably a Holter monitoring, preferrably combined with a 24-h blood pressure test to see if there is correlation between bradycardia and low blood pressure.

If you are in sinus rhythm during the bradycardia episodes, the cause is probably a slight dysfunction in the autonomic nerve system.  If the ECG discovers blockings in the electrical system or similar, your doctor can consider using a pacemaker.

I'm no doctor, this is just thoughts from a layman, but I really think you need a good explaination from your doctor on this.

Good luck!
