one week out

Today I am one week post ablation. INR reading 3.8 so I get to back away from the Lovenox needle YAY. Warfarin 5mg still in the picture. Not alot to report on the" event meter" but still some break through arrhythmia so I still get to push the record button. I'm finding a daily nap is a great thing for the tired feeling that comes with this journey. I hope anyone out there who is considering ablation is finding some hope through my story.

Yes, I too am still having occasional "fibs". They are pretty subtle though, but of course after having ablation we are on the lookout for anything that could mean a problem. Ever vigilant for the worst scenario is counterprductive rationally. Emotionally it is hard to look past it.Since this is my first ablation I have every prayer that another will not be neded. My Cardi is located 6 hours away from my home and I am set to see him in 3 months. I DON'T want to see him before that appointment as much as I like him and appreciate all he has done for me. Time will tell.

Hi Candi
I too am a few days out for a-fib and this is my second ablation. I am still having episodes of a fib and I am again concerned that it did not work. I have episodes of fast rate and pounding. I am on Cardizem sr 120mg once a day and 5 mg warfin and of course lovenox for the 10days..I will be checking inr on Monday and adjust if needed!! I was wondering if you are having same side effects from ablation??? Do they do a third ablation???hahaha I hope  I would not need???

Thanks for the "green tips". At this point I am very careful about the green things I have in my diet. I was on warfarin once before when I was cardioverted a year and a half ago.( different Cardi). At this point my Cardiologist and I are working on keeping my INR at a theraputic level since I just "came off the table" from the ablation. I'm thinking after my protime on Monday I may be directed to lower the doseage(presently5mg daily) to something lower and / or begin having salads and more green veg in my food choices. I'm crazy for blueberries and they are super high in K...so I'll follow instructions reluctantly. The balancing of it all is a bit overwhelming. I'd much rather have the INR controlled by vegetables than warfarin any day.

I, too, am glad that you are making great progress. Your INR is a bit high.  Did the EP talk to you about what foods to eat and not eat?  I was given a list of foods that were high in vitamin K and to keep a steady level of them in my diet.  Broccoli, kale, or spinach are among the foods I eat just about every day.  When I have a high INR I eat more broccoli.  This is done under the guidance of the Coumadin Clinic where I go.  On Monday, find out if they have such a list of foods for you.  It has made life so much more enjoyable and I am not in the lab every other day.

My cardi wants me in the 2 to 3 range. That's why I am not going to be injecting the Lovenox any longer and today I skip my 5mg warfarin . I begin again the 5mg warfarin on Saturday and go for protime on Monday to see if it has come down a tad into the target range . Thank you Jerry_NJ

Good to read you are making good progress.  I do wonder, however, about the INR of 3.8, that is very high... not much clotting.  Is that the range your doctor wants your INR?
