pacemaker

my mother had a pacemaker implant ans was told that if she is ok in the next three weeks it will be removed. is this possible? To remove the pacemaker?? so why was it necessary to do this in the first place?

Yes a pacemaker can be removed.

I can only guess:  the doctor believes there is a (small?) chance the heart will slow down too much.  The pacemaker will record, I believe, any action it takes to maintain a minimum HR.  If, after some period of time, the pacemaker is never activated it may be possible to conclude the pacemaker is not needed, i.e., remove it.

Better safe than sorry...
