palpitations

36yo female, not overweight, healthy, good colestherol etc... While watching telly and having A drink, and a smoke I have experienced out of nowhere palpitations. I have never had them before.
Had EKG, Stress test, ultra sound and CT angiogram all came back clear, except I have a leaking heart valve but apparently thats no concern. Holter monitor showed sinus tachycardia, while sleeping. Now every time I have a drink I experience palpitations 6 hours after my first drink. I have given up smoking and didnt change anything, now I only smoke occasionally. Why do I get them out of nowhere and how can I get rid of it. Sometimes I get it when I dont drink but thats rare. Im not a big drinker by any means I do love a glass of bubbly now and than but I cant even drink that anymore as I hate the feeling of heart racing, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!???? MANY THANKS

If you have an svt and were not in the middle of an episode while you had your tests done everything may very well come back as normal.  This is good in the sense that you don't have any underlying heart disease but you may not have been completely diagnosed.  I would recommend getting yourself a heart monitor watch.  Something to check your pulse when you are having the racing heart feelings.  Then like Rosemary says, keep a journal and keep track how often they happen, when they happen, how fast your heart is beating and how long they last.  Once you have a general idea of your symptoms you can go to your cardiologist and see what they think.  I would surmise they would want to put you on an event monitor.  You wear it for a month and then record your episode as it happens.  This is the best way to diagnose an arrythmia.  If nothing shows up after you have recorded an event then whatever you have may be of no conseqence.  Sometimes our heart does stuff that worries us but doesn't worry the doctors.  In any event, if they do find an arrythmia there are some things you can do to manage the symptoms, medicine you can take or a procedure to cure it may also be done but the first thing you need to do is get properly diagnosed.  The good news is your heart does sound like it is in fine shape so any arrythmia you may have is likely not life threatening.

Hi

Alcohol is known to induce arrythmias so it could well be bringing about your palpitations.

Keep a journal of when they happen, cos like me you might find this only happens at certain times of the month and other times you are ok with the alcohol.

of course if you completely abstain it might be that the problem is solved....bit boring, but maybe it has to be a choice....good luck with it  :-)
