Thanks jerry for your reply.Since 2008, I was on cardizem 240mg.it was working well.In 2010 I lost my insurance.I didn't bother to see a cardio for over 18 months. My internist was doing check up.until this February iwas under a lot of pressure ,a storm of afib hit me.went to the ER.as you know ,Icd have records of all my heart activities.I was told that I had a lot of afib episodes.( I can recall only 3 ).and my afib needs to be treated aggressively.I was kept 5 days at the hospital just to make sure that my body tolerate tikosyn.Had to have Ekg after each dose to make sure my Qt is normal.I was never told how strong this medication is.I am sure there is other alternative.Anyway, my insurance just kicked in , Ablation her I come.
I find it hard to believe your doctor doesn't believe you have bad side-effects. Tikosyn is near the top of the food chain of heart drugs, I think it is the second most powerful and is notorious for its side-effects. I say all of this from what I have read, I have never taken any drug stronger than Rhytmol - which had few if any side effects. I do have side effects from the 50 mg beta block I now take.
I can relate in that my problem is also AFib, but my AFib symptoms are not debilitating. I do not wear any electrical devices as my AFib has never done more than give me a hight high rate, which the beta blocker holds down to under 100 resting HR. I think tIkosyn is taken to stop AFib, I take beta blocker just to lower the ventricle rate. Without BB my HR was about 130, far short of a the danger zone, but not good to subject the heart to 24 hours a day.
