I have tried a little wine, beer, and drink all the water I want with no ill effects. However, certain fruit juices make me feel like my head is floating away. The worst offender so far is cranberry juice. It's really awful. IIRC, grape juice wasn't so bad, and V8 had no ill effects.
Everything in moderation!
I have been on a beta blocker for 21 years and have had many, many nights of partying (drinking 1-4 drinks) with no effects except for the PVCs that I always get the day after.
I have taken up to 200 mg of Toprol and had an occasional drink, wine or beer, and had no detected ill effects. I think even two would not be a problem, but I would not recommend doing that on a regular basis. Here I understand that binge drinking could have very bad effects, on Toprol or not. I also believe that a "glass of wine" every night should be acceptable, but I do not do that. I almost never have a second glass either, unless it is over a long period of time, e.g., a couple of hours. That said, never, never a third.
I believe the directions say do not drink alcohol, and I have told my doctor I have a drink on occasion. He did not express any concern.
I was recently on 25mg of toprol and I actually have had a couple of glasses of wine with it and it was fine. I don't think one glass of wine will hurt...
