Hepatitis Panel Question.

Hi everyone, i had a quick question.

I had an antibody Hepatitis Panel done this week and I received results this morning. The panel was done through request a test so I called them to see if they could interpret the results for me and I was told I showed antibodies for Hep A & B and Hep C was negative.

Do the antibodies being present mean that I am infected or simply that I am protected from the infection? I haven't received any hepatitis since I was younger (I'm 23 now).

Please don't take this as a stupid question. I mean it in all seriousness.

no from your tests you look vaccinated already or you had a mutant hbv with hbcab negative

check hbvdna pcr for 100% security

Yea ill get vaccinated soon.

They told me I was HCV negative. Is this correct?

Also, from my results do I have a Hep B infection?

you should be vaccinated because you have hbcab negative, this antibody is always positive when you meet the virus except rare cases of hbv mutants

you had also hepatitis a or vaccine for hav, but thisis not important because hav is never cronic

Hep C Virus Ab: Result <0.1Reference Interval: s/co ratio 0.0-0.9
                                                                     negative: 0.9
they mean you are negative?they don t clear if 0.0-0.9 means the negative renage

Hey so after reading my results again and again (lol) I realized that the Hep B Surface Ab
was the one with 1.35 not HBsAg.

And, after doing some research I came across an
explanation of HBsAb, HBsAg, and HBcAb.

According to the Hep B foundation "HBsAb or anti-HBs (hepatitis B surface antibody) - This refers to the protective antibody that is produced in response to an infection. It appears when a person has recovered from an acute infection and cleared the virus (usually within six months) or responded successfully to the hepatitis B vaccine shots. A "positive" or "reactive" HBsAb (or anti-HBs) test result indicates that a person is "immune" to any future hepatitis B infection and is no longer contagious. This test is not routinely included in blood bank screenings"

Can I assume that the antibody is present and high because I cleared the infection?

Ps. I hope my research is correct. I did it so I can educate myself and to avoid asking bothersome questions as I have in the past.

Stef2011, thank you for responding.

The test I ordered says:

Hep B Surface Ab; HCV Antibody; HBsAg Screen; Hep B Core Ab; Tot; Hep A Ab; Total; Venipuncture.

Also, the results read as follows:

Hep B Surface Ab: Result 1.35 Index Value 0.00-0.99
                          Status of Immunity Anti-HBs Level
An Index Value of 1.00 is equivalent to 10 mIU/mL. However the magnitude of the Index Value is not indicative of the total amount of antibody present.

HCV Antibody
Hep C Virus Ab: Result <0.1Reference Interval: s/co ratio 0.0-0.9
                                                                     negative: 0.9

In order to reduce the incidence of a false positive result, the CDC recommends that all s/co ratios between 1.0 and 10.9 be confirmed with additional RIBA or PCR testing.

HBsAg Negative
Hep B Core Ab, Tot Negative
Hep A Ab, Total Positive Abnormal.

Thanks Stef2011. Hopefully the test they used is one of those that has poor sensibility.
Much appreciation.

forgot hbcab igm, to know if you are cronic

it depends on tests used but for hbv ther is only one antibody protective with titers above 10miu/ml which is hbsab all the rest useless

My surface antigen was 1.35
this should mean you have hbv infection but there are also old tests used in US that shouldn t be used anymore because they have poor sensibility and give these fake numbers which are not hbsag quant

post again all tests with reference range or name of test

for hbv the main tests:
hbsag quant by abbott architect
hbsab by architect again
hbvdna
