Been on tenofovir for the last 2 years. PCR undetectable almost since start. I was getting worried about kidney function, when I came upon a small study on reduced dosage. I reduced myself to a pill every second day for the last six months. PCR still UND.

HBV viral PCR DNA is no long a good indication on virus level, now dr. are based on HB surface antigen and quantitatively prefer.
I am not sure if the pill dosage were meant to be broken in two pieces, your dr should monitor your liver, kidney function every 6 months, another alternative maybe switch prescription to TAF, much lighter dosage, and almost same effective
