Which Triple Drug therapy and why???

Hi Guys,

I am struggling with choosing between the 2 options. Based on the data from the clintrials, it looked like Incivek was more effective with higher SVR rates. Do any of you guys know if that data is still accurate??
Personally, I am concerned about all the fat required (already overweight) and the rectal issues (have had prior colon/rectal surgery)  If you would post what made you choose the triple therapy that you took or are taking that would be helpful. I am grateful for any responses.

Thanks-

Vann

Hi Vann,    Doctor Choose Incivek for me and has most of his patients on it.   He said it was the best treatment for GT1a.    He said if I responded the success rate is about 80 % , which in my book is way better than 50% opposed to dont doing the Incivek at all.

Kirk and Mo-

Thanks for sharing. I will choose on Tuesday and I am leaning towards Vic...I am nit sure I can manage all the food...especially in the morning. And Mo you are so right...a few short months ago....it was just the 2 drugs. I believe for finding out now was a small blessing.

Thanks again~

I chose Vic. First i chose Inc but after many weeks of thinking about it I was afraid I would not be able to get 60 grams of fat a day and tx might not work. So, I called my doctor and we discussed the alternative. Now, I understand all the pros and cons because of this sight and my doctor but I feel this is the best choice for me. Plus, I wanted to have time to do SOC for one month before adding the 3 rd drug. I realize this might be a longer tx  time but I am also one who gets rashes a lot.

Good luck with your choice.  I chuckle sometimes when I think that a year ago when thinking about tx there was no choice!

I’m on week 2 on Vic. Tests show a drop in Hemoglobin but I can’t tell.  No way to know if it will drop farther, yet.

Wow...thank you all for posting your experience and feedback!! I sure wish the choice was a little easier. Maybe once I meet with the Doctors I will lean one way or the other. Thank you all!!

I chose incevik because my history shows that I will likely get anemia and thought it would be worse with victrelis.  I also felt that the shorter term (12 wks) of incevik may be easier for me to handle.   I had thought that incevik may be better, but not really sure - my doctor thought both incevik and victrellis would have the same SVR results for me.  Good Luck with your decision.

if i was late stage 3 or 4 i would do vic for 48 weeks....stage 1 or 2  id go with inc due to only 12 weeks of the 3rd drug....

My doc and I decided to go with incevik because of the success rate and also shorter time on drugs. I am going on week 10, so only 2 more weeks of incevik, my only bad sides are fatigue and mild sore throat all the time. i have been und since week four, so I assume I made the right choice. Good luck. Joe

I chose vic, because we felt that one less sys to deal with, was a plus. Also, my system has.a chance to digest riba, and peg. Not hitting my body with everything all at once. Sys seem to be a little milder with vic. Good luck

I chose Victrelis because I was already started on SOC, but I would have picked it anyway, much easier to handle anemia than the rash and fat requirements.  I have minimal sx from Victrelis so glad I chose it.

I thought the numbers were a little better for incivek too but it sounds like they are very similar.  I also weighed in the fact that victrelis would potentially be a couple weeks longer.  I booked marked this doc, it compares the two a bit and may help.

I'm on Incivik, too, because my doctor said it was the best choice for me, and since I trust him, that's what I'm on -- it's really that simple for me... :)

frijole has a spread sheet on how many vic vs inci, she can tell you  almost all starts since may, they have never been in head to head trials so to compare is hard to do, both show similiar response data. Im on inc and it was the drug offered in the trial so no real desicion there
