Curly hair side effect to tx?

mremeet, thanks for the post with your SVR status update.  This won't be as detailed but I do have an interesting question.

I'm doing well post VX950 treatment 37-38 weeks and assume I'm still SVR.  I have a 48 week post tx PCR in September. Most of the same things mremeet experienced have occurred with me too.  I'm feeling good, back to an exercise program and right or wrong not focusing on HCV nearly as much.  It feels good to get on with life.

All my life my hair has been thick and straight.  While on tx it got pretty thin but stayed straight.  About a month ago my family traveled to Costa Rica where the humidity is like 99%.  The second day there my hair went really curly and remains that way back in the US.  It's funny because in all our photos I look like a 1975 Huey Lewis.  I even got a shorter haircut and it's still curly.

Has anyone else experienced this?

For all who are treating I'll pray that your shot symptoms are mild tonight, that time passes quickly and that you get the SVRs you deserve.

Take care,

miked

I normally have wavy/curly hair. Tx had the following effects:

1. Hair thinned hair greatly.
2. Grew full on Zsa Zsa Gabor-ish/I'm ready for my close up Mr Demille/giraffe eyelashes
3. I scratched by eyebrows clean off.
4. Pretty much all my body hair (chest and pubic) fell out. I was essentially pre-pubescent by the end of tx.
5. After tx, my hair starting growing back and was straight for the first time in my life. Tx straightened it.
6. Later my hair reverted to its normal curly/wavy state.Still haven't grown it all back though.

That's about it. Oh yeah, I went through a second puberty after tx ended and got my chest and pubic hair back. That was interesting, didn't think I'd ever go through that again. Anyway, at the height of tx I was a weak, gaunt, irritable, bluish pale leper with no hair, no eyebrows, glamorous ZSA ZSA's and a hairless seal body. I was like something right out of a friggin' Dr Seuss book. Lets just say the chicks were really diggin' my scene. And they really envied my eyelashes too.  ;-)

This is amazing, I had wavy hair and pulled back and styled many years before tx’ing and up until the last 5 months of tx and then it started to wired things like part of it stuck straight out and then looked like I stuck my finger in a socket and then all the sudden went straight and flat so I started wearing a base ball cap like back in my youth because it started to look really bad and had thinned out and was uncontrollable and looked really greasy even though I just washed it. Now at 4 almost months post TX and a lot of moose it is starting to look as it did before TX. I do wonder if it had any thing to do with the high toxicity of the drugs and the high fat content while treating with the meds.

My hair was always very curly until I treated and then it became poker straight. After I stopped it became curly again but it took about 6 months.

funny you bring up curlier hair.. I'm starting my 26th injection today and although I'm losing a lot of my hair... It's in the middle of my back-- I haven't had the nerve to cut it yet since it's thinning so much I at least want to look like I have some!!!
It's been straight most of my life---somehow--there are curls now!!! What's up with that!
More will be revealed !!
Everyday is a new adventure on this treatment... got 22 more weeks of this trip!
Hoping everyone is having as much fun :( as I am... hee hee

ha ha - love that side effect!

I always had naturally wavy hair which got wavier in humidity.  During my 56 weeks of tx it was so thin and straight it was like having someone else's hair.  I actually got to like it somewhat - and it was especially condusive to baseball caps and not having hat hair when you took it off.

My hair is back essentially to what it was before.  No curlier.  However, I have heard cancer survivors speak of such.  Kind of a nice sx if you ask me.

Congrats on your SVR.  I am trying to get to Costa Rica , but haven't made it yet!
