A new question

This is a question I haven't seen.   My Doctor ran a hep c test without my approval or knowledge.  I have chronic pain from a bad injury many years ago, so he runs a comprehensive blood panel once a year(all normal).  Other than that I'm completely healthy. Eat right, good weight, exercise.  I've never done any I've drugs, no transfusions, (although, many surgeries.  I don't know if I had any transfusions.  I was very young.)). I don't drink and never participated in any wild child activity.  I do/did go to nail salons. The hep c diagnosis was a shock!   I'm in my 50's and I have refused any common tests for diseases like breast or colon cancer.  I know this sounds stupid but I do have good reasons.  I wanted to live whatever time I have here on earth in ignorant bliss and with my health decent (as long as God allows).  (Treatment sounds horrible) . I feel violated (this is the 3rd time a Doctor has harmed me for life).   I now have an axe hanging over my head that under no circumstance should be there.  I'm extremely angry.  Question is "do you think this is medical malpractice?".  I don't want money I just want him to understand the stress he put over me for the rest of my life.  I want him to feel some of the hurt so, he thinks before he ever does such a thing again.  Also, has anyone wondered why suddenly the push to get baby boomers tested?  Seems odd a miracle drug that cost a whopping 84k for the treatment just came out. What would you do?

Personally if you had good reasons never to be tested for any ie common tests, and wanted to live life in ignorant bliss why go to a doctor at all.  Pretty much when you go to a doctor and have blood tests run that is a test that they screen for. We all under go stress I believe, when we find out.  We go thru denial and then anger and so on. I feel that this doctor may have saved your life, if you have no liver damage like so many of us do, treatment is not so bad. Maybe God wanted You to have a wake up call instead of ignoring something that can be treated. Best of Luck and hope you come to understand that there are treatments and financial help out there.

You have the right to refuse to be tested.  Do you have the right to refuse being tested for a communicable disease when there is a reasonable chance you could have been exposed?   Otherwise, something you could past to someone else due to the fact you are unaware you have Hepatitis C.  You said you don't know how you got hepatitis C.  You could have gotten hepatitis C from someone just like you.   Someone who didn't know they had hepatitis C and failed to protect others with their personal practices and believes. Now it's on you to keep your personal items separate from those close to you.....for their protection.  If you didn't know....you wouldn't feel any responsibility to do so.

Not being tested for colon or breast cancer will only result in YOU getting cancer.  That is your choice to not test for preventable cancers by getting early testing.   I was tested for and had breast cancer and I'm here 14 years later living a cancer free life.  I had my first colon screen 12 years ago that produced pre cancer polyps.  Had them removed and living to tell about it.

Not knowing you have breast cancer, colon cancer or Hepatitis C ( All I have been cured of) can result in a horrible, painful life and death. Early screening resulting in early detection and saves lives.

I guess if you really want to live not knowing what's wrong with you...don't go to the doctor.

Best to you

Hi I have to say that I would be grateful to know.  It sounds like you have a good doctor.
I had HCV for 30 years before I found out.
Others on here did not know they had it until their liver failed

I hope you can find some peace, I know the shock and horror I felt and others on here felt at first.  It is difficult to wrap your brain around.
I thought it was death sentence, it isn't.
Take Care
