Taking incevik with fatty foods…beginning, during, after meal?

Does anyone think it matters so much when you take the incevik with what you are eating?
Would it matter if you take the pills just as you start the meal, or during, or after?   Not sure if the absorption is better?
Thanks.   ginger

Hello and welcome to the forum.

It does not really matter what kind of fat as long as it is at least 20 grams of fat with each dose of Incivek. However, you should eat solid food along with the fat, not just drink a cup of eggnog or swallow a few tablespoons of olive oil.

You can read this thread to get ideas or just go to the very last post by 80meching (it has many varieties of fat containing foods).

Good luck! Let us know how you do. Be sure to post if you have any side effects and we will give you our remedies.

I have been on the Incivek now for 5 weeks along with the weekly injection and Riba just had my check up and no signs of the virus I'm at 80 % clear  ;-)                                       I take my  20% fat and Incevik at the same time and so far it has worked for me instead of waiting as far as the Riba I also take that with my first morning dose along with the Incevik at this rate I will be able to stop at the 12 weeks - per doctor. I find that the hardest part is coming up with the 20% fatty foods, the one thing I found that helps is the drink Ensure it has 6% fat and regular milk (1 cup) that has 8% fat so it's not all just food... plus the Ensure has tons of vitamin. Good luck all I can surly say this is not easy.

i took my 1pm dose today 15 minutes after cheese and crackers and no problemo. waiting a bit after eating seems to be important.

Hi Ginger...don't worry and over think this.  I know it's easy to do at times.
I have no symptoms and wondered a few times if I may be doing something wrong. Maybe I shouldn't take my Incivek & Riba together, maybe I should wait a little longer after eating before I take my pills, maybe I am eating the 'wrong' fats?   It seems silly, but nonetheless, we wonder when we hear about so many others sx and we have none.
Well, when I got my 4 week PCR test back, UND, ( I went from 6.9 mil VL to less than 5) I have no more worries.
I take both Riba doses with my Incivek.
I eat whatever fat I feel like before.
And, I take my pills usually within a few minutes of eating my fat grams.

Do make sure you always eat BEFORE you take the pills.  You need to have that fat in your stomach before.  One person made the mistake of eating after, and he  lived to regret it.  Mostly due to extreme stomach upset.
Oh, one more thing.....don't worry about taking pills at the 'exact' time.  I vary usually from 7 1/2 hrs to 8 1/2 hours apart, but try to stay consistent. Like stated above, keep it btw 7 - 9  hours and you are good!
Good luck.  I hope you stay feeling well.!

Thanks all.  I was just checking...not sure if i am waiting enough after eating.   Since I take my pills at an exact time,  I think I was more concerned about taking the meds on time.     So sometimes, I may not have finished eating.   My RN said to take the pills with my meal...which can mean anytime when eating.
I guess I am not feeling too badly as far as side effects, and am wondering if I am getting enough of the pill absorption.

I eat my snack first and then wait until my stomach has settled a little, then the pills.
I have found that many of the foods I thought I would eat did not work at all.
In the morning good old toast, butter and peanut butter seems to be easy for me.

" Each dose should be taken
7 to 9 hours apart with food. Eat a meal or snack that contains about 20 grams of fat, within 30 minutes before you take each dose of INCIVEK. Tell your healthcare provider if you have problems swallowing whole pills."

The key word is within 30 minutes.

i just started treatment last week with incevik and wonder about this also.  also, are all fats equal?  i started with avocados, thinking i like avocados and they are healthy.  but after taking the incivek with an avocado, i had to make my way to the bathroom pronto.  eating cheese or greek yogurt did not seem to produce the same kind of urgency. anyone else experience this?
