After The Loving

Many of you may know that treatment recently failed me.
My current concern is what will happen to my liver now?
Will the VL continue to rise or will it decline or level off?
Same questions regarding the enzymes.
(Please, I'm mostly interested in the VL aspect from this posting,
I would like to save 'progressing into liver disease' for a later time, thanks).

HIgh ALT and AST indicates cell death in the liver which in turn mean inflammation.

Bill / Vicky: I have not had a biopsy yet, I'm s-c-a-r-e-d of it for many reasons. I know I should have one and I will when I feel I can handle it.

LFT (liver function tests, correct?) I thought that was to track enzymes, and that enzymes were not necessarily an accurate indicator of inflammation.

The best way to monitor liver activity is via biopsy; the results should include a report including active inflammation as well as any scarring or fibrosis. Ultrasound scan is very useful for detecting things like masses, sizing portal vein, determining direction of portal tract flow, etc. U/S scan isn’t specific for fibrosis, unfortunately.

Keep in mind disease progression is typically measured in decades rather than months or even years. There are exceptions to that; especially if you use alcohol, are co-infected with HIV, etc.

Take care of yourself, dine moderately, avoid alcohol, and keep in touch with the medical system so you can monitor any future progression. Try not to let the recent relapse get to you emotionally; I know, easier said than done, but important.

All the best—

Bill

Thanks!  Hey, I am glad you are feeling better!
Did you have a biopsy yet?  They really are the most accurate way of determining what's going on.
I know all the eat healthy, exercise  advice sounds redundant, but it really will make a huge difference.  For right now, it is the best way to fight that inflammation and not overwork your liver.
Stay positive and I wish you well!
