You may be surprised as to how many take me seriously...but really who cares, then again FYI, as there are NO studies that have been done on the effects from Melatonin and liver disease for obvious ethical reasons. There are numerous warning for those with liver disease to avoid this product.
Melatonin
Other Names: MEL, MLT, N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine
When should I be careful taking it?
Although melatonin may be given in hospitals to premature infants at risk of developing lung problems, the use of supplemental melatonin for children is not recommended. Because naturally-produced melatonin has a role in the development of sexual organs, melatonin supplementation could interfere with normal sexual development.
In high doses, melatonin may hamper the ability to get pregnant by decreasing female fertility. Women who are trying to conceive should not take melatonin. Because it is not known how melatonin affects pregnant women or the fetus, melatonin should be avoided during pregnancy.
Melatonin is broken down in the liver, so individuals with known or suspected liver diseases should avoid taking it. If liver function is diminished, high levels of melatonin could build up in the blood, possibly leading to unwanted side effects.
Melatonin may promote both immune response and inflammation, making it inappropriate for individuals with autoimmune conditions. Various autoimmune conditions include:
"Is melatonin associated with the development of autoimmune hepatitis?" Melatonin is a neurohormone produced by the human pineal gland that plays a role in the regulation of many physiologic processes and has been proposed as a therapy for everything from insomnia to metastatic carcinoma. Melatonin is available in the United States without prescription, and adverse effects appear to be uncommon. However, because melatonin appears to have immunomodulatory properties, the potential exists for the development of autoimmune-related side effects. We describe a patient in whom characteristic clinical and laboratory features of autoimmune hepatitis developed after beginning melatonin therapy for the treatment of insomnia. Liver biopsy demonstrated histologic features of autoimmune hepatitis. Rapid symptomatic and biochemical improvement resulted from the initiation of immunosuppressive therapy; however, hepatitis recurred after the withdrawal of steroid therapy. The temporal relation observed between melatonin use and the development of autoimmune hepatitis raises the possibility that the drug might be involved in the pathogenesis of this patient's autoimmune disease.Hong YG, Riegler JL Department of Gastroenterology, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, USA., J Clin Gastroenterol 1997 Jul;25(1):376-378, PMID: 9412927, UI: 98074407
My little friend, your delusions as to your assertion that I have anything to do with other forums is again your own personal delusion. I have been a member of this forum for many years. You are as per the usual, out of your league, this I suspect may be the need for you to play Doctor. Your claim that many Hospitals use this sCAM medication for those suffering with liver disease is as outrageous as most of your political comment. Did Rush tell you this? Remember the first rule of holes is, STOP DIGGING SUNSHINE. Apply that to yourself, as again you are very wrong with no semblance of fact to back up your suggestion that those suffering from HCV to ingest Melatonin. There is a shortage of available livers NOW, one should not be putting stress on that supply by playing Doctor.
The facts speak for themselves, as not only are your political discussions tainted with political comment from your heroes Peabody Bill and Rush Limbaugh, it seems you have moved up to endangering people with HCV with your comments as to what they should ingest. Your narrow-minded political opinions only hurt you, whereas your new need to play Doctor is dangerous.
I would stronly advise anyone to disregard Snooks medical suggestions and place as much creedance his Dcotor playing as most to do his cut and paste political comments.
Regardless of the name dropping one with his world famous doc, Melatonin has caused serious liver injury to those suffering from HCV, including liver death. Rather than defend a stupid post with your usual anti-liberal babblings, why not worry about those who your dangerous suggestions may hurt. One may be lead to believe that like most conservatives, life is far less important than seeming to be correct all the time. I do trust you did read my comments about Hillary Clinton as to your assumption that the next President of United States had something to do with the HIPAA laws when in fact it was Bush’s Dad and the republican congress that passed that legislation. In fact to date most of your political statements are incorrect as well as your statements dealing with HCV. It really takes so few moments to check things out before one posts, why not make the attempt the next time your feel the desire to inundate us with your lack of knowledge.
to date my friend, YOU have yet to stump me on ANY discussion. I know that is why you come to this forum, in a desperation attempt to bait me into engaging in your demented illusional games.
I did see your blog on Hillary, yet felt no need to embarass you, or attack you such as YOU have continuosly done towards me. Besides that, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE!
It is a shame to see the desperation that the Delphi community has sunk to. I know you miss my logical explanations and itellect, but the ENTIRE community you represent in TAINTED!!
The agenda MIGHT have been sincere at one time, but has since been lost.
Again, I guess you failed to follow the links I posted above, as seems MANY Universities and hospitals use Melatonin.
Keep digging that hole my friend, soon it will be toooo deep to climb out.
For anyone interested, or hesitant about the substance...The two links I posted above are posted on prestigous schools and medical centers, not just blogs. One is the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and another in the University of Maryland official site.
The following link is a Faq page about the substance, which originates from an article published in Newsweek.

Sorry if there was any forms of miscommunication on my part, as I am not "playing" Doctor as another member has suggested. My intentions where to merely offer a "personal" suggestion, of a substance that worked for me, nothing more..
AGAIN, the sign on the door reads: PATIENT TO PATIENT
Here is a link for all the others who might be interested in Melatonin..
