There are some sx of the Interferon that can affect the lungs.Best to perhaps have an xray of your lungs to discount any lesions etc..
I agree that all meds should be pre-approved by the treating doctor. Although it was family doctor on call that told me to get the Nyquil, it was my hepatologist who told me to see my family dr. about the cough. I am learning that I have to be on my toes and always question if I want certainty in answers even with all the doctors.
Well, of course, plenty of water, and an herbal tea with organic raw honey may be somewhat soothing. I used to buy eucalyptus oil and pour a small amount in the shower, and breath the steam~
sounds like you have the dreaded riba cough which is pretty common during treatment, being your cirrhotic you need to ask your doctor what is best to take though I don't think much will help it............. Good luck with treatment.
Nyquil:
* Contains alcohol. Alcohol should never be taken by someone with hepatitis C and cirrhosis.
* NyQuil liquid contains acetaminophen which can only be taken in a limited amount for patients with cirrhosis.
* Nyquil also interacts with Beta-blockers (eg, propranolol/nadolol) which patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension usually take.
Medicines even over the counter meds can cause complications of cirrhosis. Talk to your doctor about how to treat your cough. That is there job.
Good luck!
