Hi Barb I get depressed during the middle to early part of the treatment but there were a lot of bad thinkgs going on in my life at that time like my husbands job went bankrupt without notice and we lost our insurance and since I had a preigisting illness no one would take me and then my hubbie went out of state to work for a month. They put me on Prozac and it worked for 5 days and then I thought I would jump out of my skin and they gave me something for anxiety which helped me within 20 minutes. I didnt want to be around people and was very aggitated but I have been taking the Alprazolam now for about three weeks and I feel like a normal person almost. It also helps with the itching if you ever get that. I hope that I have helped and not made things more confussing. Feel free to reply if you have any questions. I have 1 shot and 1 1/2 weeks to go now. Praise the Lord. huggzz Karin
My friend. You dont have to be depressed. When i discoverd if feeld anxious, depressed all the world was down. Free your mind be strong and hope is the point of every thing.

Barb - if you are depressed - or someone else is -- most certainly depression is one of the side effects of HCV... But it could be because of the disease --- or because of the mental status one finds themselves in when they learn they have a disease.
I found my learning about HCV followed a kind of "grief" like stage set up.
I went through disbelief, anger, hostility, depression, acceptance and then military precision on destruction of the disease.
So each person handles it differently.
HOWEVER - if you or someone you know is going through depression - WITH or WITHOUT HCV... Please ---- PLEASE --- find someone who is educated in this field...
A doctor - a counselor - a priest - a pastor - psychologist - etc.
Because Depression can really harm a person.
Alright?
Hugs!
Meki
I should add that if you or your husband are diagnosed with depression, there are many ways to treat it and most people are able to deal effectively with it.
I wish you the best of luck dealing with HCV.
Take care,
Eric
HCV does cause depression. People react differently to depression; feeling unable to deal with social situations is a common symptom.
