Diabetes????

Hey Guys,
Just a quick question.  I will give you guys the readers digest version.  I do know that for HIV patients, they can because of the meds they are taking develope diabetes from long use of these drugs.  I know as my neighbor who is also HIV + just tested positive for diabetes type 2.  I've been feeling lite headed here recently.

From my last test my HIV is UND.  However in looking at the other lab values that I have from my copies.  What would indicate possible diabetes?  Would it be the GLUCOSE, Serum value?  If so then mine reads from my last report from 3/14/08.  That it was 118 with the range being 65-99.  It so that value being H ( high ).  What other lab values would be indicative of possible diabetes?  Little concern........and can it be controled?

In Him,
R

Hey, I am a type 1 diabetic .the test that would would help you would be whats called a HEMOGLOBIN  A1C  or as us in the diabetes world call it the A1C test  it is able to get an average of what your blood sugars are running over the past 3 months. non diabetic is usually a  6.0  or lower mine is a 5.8 which is considered non diabetic ( i am well controlled)  once you numbers get in to 7, 8, 9 there is a problem i know people as high as 11, The other test is called a GLUCOSE tolerance test  they take your baseline blood reading and then they make you drink a sugar drink and then they take another blood reading, in some cases they have what's called a three hour test where they keep making you drink the sugar drink and taking your blood every 45 minutes, to see how your blood sugar elevates when ingesting sugar and how your body deals with it. I have never has that test because they can't make type 1 drink that sugar. But before I became a diabetic and i was preg. I took the one hour test, and they were able to tell I had whats called gestsational diabetes ( happens to pregnant women during pregnancy)
usually it goes away after you give birth, in my case it turned into type 1 diabetes . If you are a type 2 you can control it with keeping your weight down, and eating a healthy diet, some people need med. but those tend to be people who are over weight or not eating right. hope this helps..

congrats on being UND for your HIV , My dad also has been UND for his HIV You guys talk from time to time he is "redeemed1" Thank you for all your help with him during his treatment right now ..
God Bless,
Cindi

There is a tgest you can take to see what your blood sugar has been doing over the last 8-12 weeks. It's called the hemoglobin AIC. It's a simple blood test. My doctor is not concerned with a morning reading of 118. Were you fasting for at least 8 hour?
