How long for PCR results?

Hey all - I had my 1 month post-TX Heptimax drawn at Quest Labs on 8/25 - it's now 9 days later and the doc still hasn't received them. It would be nice to know the results before the holiday weekend. How long has it been taking lately? I thought my lat one was back in 6 days.

Thanks,
Joey

You bet; and you can rest more easily knowing that the test probably took longer to turn around because of low or non-existent viremia; if it had popped back quickly, it might imply that they didn’t have to run the second, more sensitive portion of the test :o).

I sure hope this test is good news and you can put this stuff in the rear-view mirror for life—

Hi Bill - thanks for the info - I was undect at EOT and since week 4 of treatment. Since I was GT 3a with a low HCV, I figure my odds are pretty good of being Undect now.

Thanks,
Joey

[Let’s try that again; the ‘greater than’ ‘and less than’ arrows in my post broke HTML code in the forum :o).]

It should be any day now. Heptimax is a two part test; if the sample is negative to less than 50 IU/mL (per PCR), then the test shifts to the TMA portion which is sensitive to, 5 IU/mL. I suppose if the sample somehow hit the lab on the right (or wrong) day, it could take as long as 10 days. AT least with Heptimax, you are assured of getting one of the most sensitive test results available. Perhaps your last test was detectable to greater than 50 IU/mL?
