Elevated Enzymes after delivery

Hello I been living with Hep C for 10yrs. No insurance or money to do peginterferon treatment. I had a baby in Nov 2009 ( thankfully healthy). My Alt enzymes have been for the last 10 yrs slightly high, 45-55, but 2 months after delivery went for check up and they went up to AST 241 and ALT 595  BUN 29.
I do not had preclampsia or anemia during pregnancy, low cholesterol, no diabetes or any other disease besides be Hep C positive. I feel perfectly good, but I am scared liver and disease started to damage liver or worst
April 22nd finally got an appointment in the Hospital in Hepathology. Anybody out there has any idea what else or why Hep C started damaging liver after delivery?
What this could be, or course of action to take?
I hope i can still take care of my baby and breastfeed him till hes a year old...

Hi again. I would say that if you had an ultrasound with no signs of scarring a little while ago that you will be absolutely fine :-) This should mean that you have no rush to treat just yet...which is great!! It means that you can just concentrate on enjoying your baby. Take care

Hello Redish123,

How are you? Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, General Practitioner said it could be due to the pregnancy/hormone/stress/body changes as you also said. I am trying to get calm but I am pretty nervous. I want to start treatment but me getting worse now wouldn't help since I am breastfeeding my baby and he is Hep c free for now, and doing great with nursing.
Had a liver ultrasound @ 6 months pregnant and liver showed no scarring/problems.
I cant wait till Thursday after a hepathologist and gastroenterologist sees me...
Question: Do a biposy hurts?
I had one 10yrs ago in combination with a laparoscopy so I dunno if just a biopsy hurst or will disrupt daily routine.

Again thanks for you help and information shared.

I was diagnosed with hepC during my second pregnancy (1994). At the time of diagnosis all LFT results were normal. After delivery mt AST and ALT were both elevated for about a year! After this they went back down and i had no other problems for another 12 years or so.

At this point i would keep the appt that you have at the hospital, but try not to panic! The hospital may make you an appt for a biopsy or a scan and give you an idea as to if this is cause for concern or just a fluctuation...maybe due to stress from pregnancy, delivery and now mothering.
