Do you mean intubated?
Never heard of incubating adults!
Gad your sister is doing so much better. You are right, there is no way to predict outcomes, peope beat the odds every day.
Hope you are well
Just wanted to say, my sister, who has ESLD also, does very much the same as New Sojourn in terms of her diet, and it has benefitted her greatly, she's come back from a lot...she maybe cheats a little once in awhile, but not often...she also exercises and drinks plenty of water, all the healthy things youre supposed to do anyway...
Some of these posters are totally out of line and others are mis-informed.
As to your mother, memory problems and 'losing one's mind' are signs of heptic encephalopathy. this is a toxic build up of unprocessed chemicals in the body.
Ammonia is a major cause b/not the only toxin that causes this condition.
There are meds to reduce the toxins and there are certain dietary changes that help immensly.
Dairy converts quickly to ammonia as does red meats and animal proteins in general. Avoid these.
A diet of whole grains, brown rice, lightly steamed veggies and juicing are preferable.
Getting the proper nutrients is vital when the liver is mal functioning so badly that memory and personality changes occr.
I have a decomp'd liver due to a massive bled cause by mis dx hep c from 1967 transfusion. I cl'd the virus-2b-b/ still must monitor my food very carefully.
I'm classified as end stage liver disease/hep c. Appearently, you can't 're-comp' a liver, so here I stay-end stage.
The best nutritional boost I take is a protein shake/smoothie every morning. I use a rice protein, Activa yogurt-live bacteria-apple juice and fresh fruits. all in the blender-sometimes an egg. I also add liquid 'joint juice', calciunm-minerals and all around vitamins. I get all these @ costco.
Junk food, white flour, corn syrup and fruitous are really bad, trans fats the worse.
The fewer toxins one takes in, the fewer toxins the damaged liver has to filter out. And the fewer toxins the body makes, the same filter thing.
Sam-e and milk thistle, green tea and fish oil caps all help too.
Don't worry-the 'end' is not really then 'end'. One can linger quite well @ this whistle stop.
I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she finds a way to manage her hep c/cirrosis.
I remember Kalio talking about tatoos and she brought up an interesting point, that it's not the needles per se that always have the virus? forgot exactly.. but it was interesting and I was discussing this with someone the other day and spaced it..(whoda thought? haha) anyway, what was that you said Kalio? if youre around and can refresh my memory...no, I didn't see that article...
Did anyone see the artile in the news today about the kids getting tatoos back in 2004 from people that did not sterilize etc. They are now finding skin problems....I bet in the next 5 years or so there will be HEP people out of the woodwork.
