hey is me ...i am back...i have finished the tratament and my hcv rna is undetecteble so i maybe won the fight but....i have a question but first let me tell you my story: Somewhere around the end of january i accidentally stuck myself with an used serynge from a friend of mine how is getting high with intravenos ketamine ..i knew him all my life and i was not suspecting anything bad to happent..but somewhere around april he called me and said that he has HCV ...first thing i have done i went to the doctor and get my hcv test witch was negative but i was allready having liver pain, this happend around 1-2 april. My liver pain gotten worst and around 1 may  i went to the doctor and get full blood test, the doctor said to me that my liver enzymes are sky high and i am positive HCV.On the 3th may i haved started the tratament. In this time ive had sex with my wife only 2-3 times, she went to the doctor and had her blood test and everything was normal,anti-hcv negative and liver enzymes normal, but now she is having allot of stomach noise but no liver pain or any other pain. You see life in romania is hard ..the tratament cost me 1500 euro(thats my pay cec for 8 mounths) and now we dont have any money to give her to take the test again.do you thing should i worry or its just nothing to worry. My first symptoms appeared maybe around half of february so just 3-4 weeks after the accident and her symptoms appeared just now and thats the only symptom she has ..i am worry sick and i can do anything ...i could live with the guilt that ive got her sick.PLS help my with some info.

No, you have not made a mistake to do the treatment now. This is your best chance and you are lucky to have caught it in it's acute phase. I'm wishing you all the best with it!!!!

It gets much more difficult to treat when it becomes chronic. Most of us here only found out many many years later that they had hep c. I must have had it for around 25 years when I found out. I treated for 32 weeks and it was very difficult. Most people here had to treat for much longer than I did.

I'm sorry I don't know much about treating acute hep c, but if your hospital has such a good success rate with acute cases, I guess I know what they are doing.

Hang in there, it is tough. But you will be able to make it through the 4 weeks of treatment!!!

He's only taking it for 4 weeks.

When it's over, you'll be glad you did. None of the side effects you feel are out of the ordinary.

This too shall pass.

Good luck.

Roli,

The first few months of treatment the side effects are pretty bad.  You'll gradually start to get used to it.  Take pain medication if you have to for your aches and pains.  I always dreaded the day after my injection.  Other than that it didn't seem to bother me too much after a while.

You are very young and you have such great odds of beating this disease please try as hard as you can to continue.  You don't want to wait until you are older like most of us - it's even harder to beat once you have developed a lot of liver damage....

As time goes on your body will probably get used to the interferon more and suffer less of the chills.  I hope that you are taking the ribavirin with breakfast and dinner it helps with the naseau (as does plain old ginger ale with the bubbles stirred out).

I always took Advil with my interferon shots and I believe it is why I never really suffered from the fevers.

Please try and continue so you can get rid of this now before it has caused you complications.  When you are older you will be very glad you beat it while you were young because you will be out enjoying your life once again soon.

Have you tried taking paracetemol (acetaminophen) about twenty minutes before your daily shot? And maybe icing your injection spot and regularly rotating from thighs to stomach?

You have a superb chance of beating this as an acute treating with monotherapy, so for sure, I'd encourage you to stick with it and make sure your doctor is monitoring you.

I had weekly blood testing done in my first twelve weeks of treatment and that was an excellent way of objectively seeing that as bad as I felt, I was still okay. I received a copy of my lab reports in the mail, so maybe you can arrange to get your reports and keep an eye on things yourself.

I'm not sure about the dose protocol for daily interferon but it sounds like you're going to treat for four weeks in total with a weekly total dose of 35?

Yes, I think it's worth it. I treated for forty-eight weeks with a forty to fifty percent odds of success and am now virus-free.

I somehow stuck it out, chills and all, thanks to the encouragement from those who had been there and done that.

Stay determined - you can do this!
