HCG Diet

Would it be safe for me to go on the HCG Diet while I have Hep C?  Thank you.

Diet alone can certainly assist with weight loss.  Lots.  I had an undiagnosed esophageal spasm, I could only eat once every two days and I lost 30 lbs in 3 months.

I no longer accept that reducing the amount eaten *alone* will not cause you to lose weight.  Thought that for years as a way of justifying a weight issue that crept up on my over 15 years.

So you used the HCG and have hcv? i am not on meds because until they manage to come up with on NOT interferon based (i have deadly side effects) But mostly I have been inactive for years and I dont want to do anything that will cause it to become active. I would like to lose weight, which you know with hcv isn't easy to do with diet alone. Let me know what you have done so far!

Just wanted to point out the above post from 2009 is not me.  It took me back when I saw it and I noticed it wasn't the same spelling as I use.  I didn't know there was ever anyone using this similar name.

Wow, there are some major major misconceptions on this sight.  First of all, fat does not cause fatty liver, carbs, sugar and alcohol do. Second, no one is fatigued on the HCG diet because you are getting as many calories as you need since you live off of your own body fat.  But anyway, I am on peg interferon and ribavirin and it has not created a loss of appetite. I have done the hcg before and it worked beautifully, now I want to do it again while on the HCV meds but so far, it seems to be harder.  Has anyone else done both of these protocols at once?

NO!! NO!! NO!!
Binging on fatty foods, even for a short while will lead to a fatty liver. THIS SHOULD ONLY EVER BE DONE IF YOU WAN'T CIRRHOSIS.
500 Calories a day, even for a few days will exacerbate the fatigue that you probably currently have due to HCV. Recovering from it however will take more then a few days. The unlimited coffee and tea that is allowed could lead to insulin resistance, which in turn could lead to increased fibrosis, cirrhosos and treatment failure.
Yes, it is a quick weight loss, to quick to be healthy. No the weight will not stay off once you start eating over 500 calories/day.
If you're looking to jab yourself with a needle, try interferon. If you're looking to take diet pills, try Ribavirin, weight loss is a well documented side effect.
Then, if you want to keep it off try joining a gym and doing it the healthiest (and only proven) way.

Only if your physician says you could do it safely. Or if you can find a naturopath who could monitor you while you do it. The hcg doesn't have many side effects but with pre-existing conditions  like hep c you might run into problems of a different sort?
