The S/O drugs are cheap in India. An Indian helped invent it and holds partial ownership to the patent. Call Gilead. Lots of US medicine originates in India. With a little research and getting a doctor you should do well.

Your mom's doctor is likely waiting for the Gilead drugs as there is much going on in India regarding using these wonderful drugs. The only thing to really know from an ultrasound is that your mom has no lesions (masses or tumors) in her liver. That is a great thing but it doesn't tell you much about her hep C. Only a biopsy or fibroscan can give more information about the stage of her disease. However, from your mom's physical exam and lab work, her doctor should be able to make an educated guess as to the condition of her liver.

Hi I found a list of Hepatologists in India, sorry I don't know if they will be close to you or not, I just wanted to try to start a dialogue.  I will keep looking.
How does your Mom feel?  Is she having any symptoms that led her to the doctor?

Hello, welcome to the forum.  It is early here right now 6AM so I am sure others will be along as the morning progresses.
It is a shock to be diagnosed with Hep C but please know it is not a death sentence.  Hepatitis C is a slow moving virus.  Did the doctor give any indication of how damaged he thought the liver was?  I am not sure why he would first say interferon then say no; I would guess that he has heard of the newer medications that are not as  harsh as interferon so he wants to wait.  Does this doctor specialize in the liver?  You would want someone who is a specialist. with the liver a hepatologist.
In the meantime your Mom can help her liver by drinking no alcohol,  drinking additional water  eating fruits vegetables, whole foods, chicken, fish, no fried food, red meat,
Everything that we eat, drink, put on our skin has to be processed by the liver.  It is a hard working organ.

I will try to find more information and come back.  Hang in there, Dee
