HELP! - detected after treatment

I am a 58 year old male, Hep C 1b, LDT patient in Jan. '06  that just completed a 60 week treatment of Peg-intron and Rebetol. I was undetected at 12 weeks and stayed undetected through out the treatment. Unfortunately, the virus was detected 6 weeks after I stopped the treatment.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on what you think would be the best course of action at this point.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Bill

Some treatment info:

Rebetol was decreased through the course of the treatment due to anemia(started at 800mg and finished at 400mg)
I was on 1.5 Peg-intron through out the treatment.

I relapsed at about 3 mos. post tx as a geno 1. I refused to lower my Ribavarin when my Dr. wanted me too. I had read too much to do so. I had to stop tx due to a bleed, otherwise I would have gone 72 weeks. Possibly could have had cleared. But it wasn't to be. As Geno 1's we only have a 50% chance you know. So sorry to hear this, but it you most likely did all you could. Those of us that have relapsers will have to wait another day to get SVR.  Hoping that for you!  Keep posting, it helps!

So sorry to hear of your relapse. Perhaps the decrease of Rebetol was the reason for your relapse? How much do you weigh? How low did your hemoglobin fall? Did you get any rescue drugs? That said, unfortunately even when everything is in place during tx, geno 1s do relapse. There just isn't any guarantees with this virus.

I know Mikesimon on this board has gone through a liver transplant. He treated 3 times, twice with reduced dosing, last time with full dosing for 72 weeks. That time he SVR:ed. You might want to chat with him and see what he thinks.

I wish you the best of luck with futher tx's. The pain you are experiencing now is a pain we all hope noone would have to experience.
