HR Supplements - One Month Blood Test

I Received a letter from my GP that requested I see him regarding my last Blood Test results.
He was on Holiday so saw another. This Doc is into Life Extensions.
Anyway heres my blood test results at Baseline (before taking HRs list of Supplements.) and the one month results of taking them.

Blood
Chemistry……March 1st...March 28th…Units…...Normal Range
T Bilirubun......16..............4................umol/L....(3-20)
C Bilirubin.......2................2................umol/L....(0-7)

ALP.................57.............52................U/L.........(30-115)
AST.................55H..........37................U/L.........(5-40)
ALT.................91H..........56H..............U/L.........(5-40)
GGT................45............21………......U/L……..(5-65)

Cholesterol…..2.8L……...2.7L……….mmol/L...(3.9-5.5)
Triglyceride….0.7………..0.6………...mmol/L...(0.6-2.0)

Iron…………..41H……….15…………umol/L.…(9-29)

Even an ALT of 91 is low for me, I find it hard to believe how fast my ALT/AST dropped.
Considering how sceptical of supplements in general I am and would never have taken them if it wasn’t for HR (Actually it was Gauf that pushed me), I would like to thank HR for discussing these supplements and bringing them to my (our) attention. This is some powerful Sh1t we are taking.

After this test was done I had stopped taking Resveratrol and Milk Thistle. Got worried about whether one or the other may have contained alcohol. I’ll start taking them again after these results.

Now for some of the other tests I had done.
HCV RNA Viral Load (COBAS Ampliprep/COBAS Taqman HCV Assay)

HCV Viral Load 622000 IU/mL
HCV Log VL      5.8

Now my pre Tx VL was >850000 IU/mL.
No idea what it was exactly as this was the limit of the test.
Maybe failing Tx did something after all.

I asked for an Insulin test to be done so I could calculate my Insulin Resistance.

Homeostasis Model (HOMA-IR)
Below is the formula to workout Insulin Resistance.

HOMA-IR = fasting plasma insulin mU/L) x fasting plasma glucose (mmol/L)/22.5

I have also seen the formula written as
HOMA-IR = fasting plasma insulin (µIU/mL) x fasting plasma glucose (mmol/L)/22.5
So I hope uIU/mL and mU/L is the same.

Insulin = 9
Fasting Plasma Glucose = 6.1
So the formula is
9 x 6.1 = 54.9
54.9 / 22.5 = 2.44
HOMA-IR = 2.44

Depending on the study Insulin Resistance impacts SVR with a score above 2 or 2.4.

Looks like IR had an impact on my Tx.
Cause I could have got the calculation wrong

I also had an Iron studies test done, as Iron was high on the Baseline test.
Iron 15 umol/L (9-29)
TIBC 67 umol/L (45-72)
Saturation 22 % (20-55)
Ferritin 96 ug/L (30-300)

No Iron issues there. Except had the Haemochromatosis gene test done

C282Y Mutation not Detected.
H63D   Heterozygous Mutation Detected.

So I am a carrier of a single low-risk HFE mutation.
Apparently this means that Development of Haemochromatrosis is very unlikely, but still possible?

All up I am really pleased with these results.
Especially now I know that the supplements really do seem to be doing something.

Got no idea why the Doc wanted to see me though.

Hi Lady, I noticed in your profile (interests) you wrote HCV & menopause, I am also interested in Menopause HRT's (in conjunction with Txing for HCV.
I started closer to the bottom of this thread, than the top.  I guess I like to confuse myself as often as possible so I can stay in a constant state of brain clog.
My point here is, I thought when you said HR supplements, you meant 'Hormone Replacement' Therapy.  Then, I got the feeling the thread shifted over to 'Hepatitis Researcher', and his viewpoint re; supplements. Any how I plan to get one of those test kits to see about my estrogen levels, then talk to my GI/Hepatol. re; HRT's on Tx. I'll let ya know.  There's my two cents worth.  Hugs 4C, from Ant B

I sure wasn't talking about anybody in particular...and keeping grudges around here is ridiculous, how many times have I acted like an idiot? don't answer that!!!...lol....besides, when all is said and done, it's just words...not like anybody knocked me upside the head with a shovel, lol.....people are free to disagree, debate, whatever, etc....hope everyone has a great weekend!

I too am wary of supps, but these do have some studies behind them.  PPC is definately worth taking on tox.  HR is the only reason I put any faith in them.

"Anyway I am taking them because I think they will help with my next round."

I am so with you on this one. Do everything you can to start tx with the best readings possible, and then hit it fast and hard, before it knows what happened.

>It’s a hell of a lot of pills and some ain't easy to swallow.

hmm.. yes, and neither is eating crow. I'm another one that owes apologies in this regard, though I hope I didn't post anything hostile in the past. I have always been very suspicious of supplements, partly because of scant evidence on mechanism, partly because of doubts about dosage and purity, but am definitely coming around to a "born again" faith.

I don't have ast/alt data like cs's available but can report I feel  a lot better since adding ppc, curcumin, silymarin about a month ago (resveratrol coming).

Caution is always wise, but undue confidence in prescription medicine as the only effective option is likely misplaced.

4C - hey, not to blow my own horn or anything, lol...but if you knew (or maybe you do) the amount of grief I've taken on here, and other boards, for even mentioning supps...(though it's a lot better these days, I've been taking them for years and years)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And not that long ago I could well have given you grief over supps.
Dont think I ever did though.
I’ve mellowed a lot since joining this board. Owe quite a few people on here.

Taking these supps wasn’t something that came easy for me.
I am someone that needs evidence. The evidence for supps is something I have never trusted or considered it pseudo evidence. Lloyd Wright has a lot to answer for.

Anyway I am taking them because I think they will help with my next round. Gunna try everything I can think of. Just gotta make sure I dont outsmart myself and over do it.

Must admit these supps have surprised me.

I agree with the titre up approach. I didn’t really but only took them once a day to begin with. Added SAMe later on. Titre that one up, you cant half tell you took it.
It’s a hell of a lot of pills and some aint easy to swallow.

Wish you Well with you Tx, hope it works 4 ya.

Yeh know about the weight thing. Its why I want to get down to a more Asian weight.
There is more to it than just weight though. You should see the SVR rates they get in Taiwan. Not many G3s there though.

I wouldn't mind being borderline detectable at 4 weeks. Its a pretty good result really.

Didnt really get the joke so wasnt offended.
Figured it had somthin to do with the SouthPark joke I made in an earlier thread.

Is that daily intake?
Hope u didn´t got ofended about my joke in an earlier thread.
Talked to my hepdoc today about my odds of reaching SVR and he confirmed the very positiv odds that you earlier had been given me verces zazza. He is btw in  charged, together with another doc in a trial thats gonna be, concerning vaccin therapi in end of soc treatment, to strenghten immunal system for elder patient so that hopefully their relaps rate would bee lesser. He didn´t belive in any other benefits from that vaccin.

He also told me that the study that was earlier the guidline for dosing geno 3 was done in south or central eurorean country(ies) were the people are smaller and thinner then average and why the studies from USA shows poorer result then from other studys, is the opposit their 10kg heavier .

I´m so glad this supplement stuff seems to work for you. When first heard about you and your consern for me, and that you where a non responder.  I had a serious talk with God Allmighty  about you, and that I´m gonna bugg him until he makes you completely well. Take care you such an asset for many people

I'm actually chronic Hep B and just looking to add some things that might have protective value against fibrosis.  I recently started taking milk thistle but at a lower dose than gauf or CS.  I also take green tea extract and was considering adding curcumin and flax seed (in food form).

I think part of the problem here is that if someone *here* does talk about supps, some people here think that this will lead the person away from Standard of Care treatment, because of all the adverse talk about soc...which is a legitimate concern...Many people don't have time to play around with supps, they have to treat yesterday....

everyone is different in the way they present with this disease...and there are many in the camp that think everyone should just treat no matter what, and not play around with supps and waiting...and then there are those that think they have enough *wiggle room* time to wait for the example, PI drugs with much shorter treatment times and, it would seem, a higher percentage of SVRs....so there are a few camps of thought...just thought I'd preface that...do you know your present stats with this disease? haven't looked at your profile, sorry...I just did and I don't quite understand...anyway, I do think women should take less, but consult with an expert, and don't necessarily take everything, start one by one at the lowest dose and then test (but that's just me)

Are the dosage recommendations different for women or are they at all size dependent?  Thanks for any guidance.

hey, not to blow my own horn or anything, lol...but if you knew (or maybe you do) the amount of grief I've taken on here, and other boards, for even mentioning supps...(though it's a lot better these days, I've been taking them for years and years)

even though I've always said that they prob just helped me keep my inflammation down, which could of related to the fact that I've always had good labs - though I've had this prob over 35 years and I'm 54...

I never told anyone that it would *rid* anyone of the virus, just perhaps make you feel better and help your labs...this varies of course, depends on what your taking (you gotta know what your doing and my advice is always titer up, and don't take everything you see that's supposed to be helpful, then it's overkill, in my view, and always consult experts...my take is that many people don't, and take too much of something, or the wrong thing for them, etc...) And maybe there are individuals who can't seem to take anything, to be sure...well, I'm bringing on the big guns anyway, but for people who can't treat for whatever reason, or have and it didn't work out, there are ways to help - I think...just my take....

I'll do Round 3 towards the end of the year, early next year at the latest.
Hopefully the Sups buy some time.

Steven "I move in shadows, ride in the wind"

What... you're passing gas and playing turtle? (*GRIN*)

Gauf -- we get them through Police Supply - but any major sports shop --- or even a police catalog would have them - I would think. If I get some time today between prisoner transports arrangements etc. I'll take a look.

Great news!  I've started some of the supplements but I'm doing it slowly.

We need a moderator at the Hep B board because it gets raucous there.  stevenNYer is like 90% of the problem, though, so having him as moderator isn't that helpful.

I am new here. What HR supplements and are you taking TX? I would like to approach my doctor with other options other than chemo. Visiting this site chemo is really not an option. I have to work. I have already been and is so fr---kin tired all the time that I don't want to have to deal with being sick on top of that. I was referred to a hepatology because some of my level increased. So now I am waiting on results for the blood work and ultrasound. I have a biopsy scheduled 25 Apr. Enough with the babbling, I was curious if this was some Alternative medicine TX.
Thanks, DB

Such blasphemy...what you purpose cannot be done.  Others have tried and they have failed.

I move in shadows, ride in the wind, distrubed only be the faint echos of my beating heart.  I just walked pass in between your threads.  Did you see me or sense my presense?...you did not.

So hands up, your zone awaits your arrival.

LOL.....man,  I love you guys.
