Hmmm, I only have dry skin, no flaking, but I like this all natural product I found, at the local Health-Food store, called "Waxelene", it's a petroleum jelly alternative.
The ingredients in it are: Organic soy oil, natural vitamin e oil, Beeswax, and organic rose-mary oil. But it's the Beeswax that really makes the consistancy very thick and moisturizing, and it smells SO good, like honey. I also have a natural soap, that has beeswax and honey in it, and has the same delicious smell, and is so luxurious and gentle, on my skin..
The stuff that bees make, like Royal-Jelly, Bee Pollen, and raw honey, it's all very strengthening and rejuvenating, especially for females (Royal Jelly is made for the Queen Bee, and she lives longer then the other bees)
so I like to eat that stuff as well.
Thanks everyone! I also developed a little problem with psoriasis, only on my left eyelid, and on this one spot in the front left of my scalp, just a patch of contant big flakes on both. I've never had this problem before. I try vitamin E oil, olive oil, and different natural, mild creams. any suggestions?
After my last treatment my hair grew longer than it
had been in years. Don't worry.

Hey you! The situation with my dad is better. However, I made an ammends just for my side of the street. Then, he made me write an email to the rest of out=r extended family. In that email, I basically took full responsibility for the whole fight, and basically wrote excuses for why my dad left me in the desert. I don't agree with the whole email, but in order for him to forgive me, he basically said "I'm going to blackmkail you with this email, so that no one blames me for leaving you!" I humbled myself and wrote the email anyway, even though I still think he should have appologized for his part in it too, but I had to leave that out of my ammends to him (although that was hard to do).
OMG! I forgot about the commercial! Hugs to you Will!
'evening,
So this is what I learned about biotin. It will make your hair stronger and therefore stay on your head longer. The medications are slowing down regrowth. These suggestions came from a genetech rep., that taught my "medication class": satin pillowcases reduce friction, don't comb hair often, stay away from blow dryers and no hair coloring.
I started taking biotin pills 2 months ago; I do hope it helps.
for me it's generally just thinning. no bald spots or receding hairline. my hair is thinning plus the actual strands are thinner. good luck to you. belle
Oh, I just heard a "12 week" # up there, and I'm at week 11.
I have these little tricks I am employing: I only wash my hair once a week, and then I air dry, instead of blow-drying. And I am too scared to re-dye it, so I have that white skunk stripe down my part, and at the temples.
So, here I am, pasty white (grey?) skin on my face, all one shade, giant dark circles under my eyes (raccoon look) from insomnia and worry, and most of my muscle mass turning into jiggley wiggley, not to mention, the wrinkles on my face have quadrupled.
I'm just wondering what to expect, alopecia type bare-spots, or a receeding hair-line ( I could always cut a few inches off,and add bangs)
five weeks post treatment for me and I am still shedding as well. Not that much in the shower but when I blow dry. It seems like the texture has changed also, used to be very silky now its thin and just weird. Like very fly away, maybe because its so thin. Its all gonna be worth it with good news at three months and then again at six. Lets all just cross our fingers and do what ever it is you do to stay positive.
i started losing my hair around 12 weeks. now i'm at 44 weeks and it started slowing down about 8 weeks ago. i have all kinds of hair that is about 2" all around my part in front and in back. i have 4 more weeks so i don't want to lose more. i've already lost about 1/2 my hair. i cut about 6" off to make it look better. good luck on your hair growth and i'm so glad you're feeling better. btw how's the situation with your dad these days? i hope you worked it out with him and his girlfriend. take care. belle
I have lost more hair on this treatment than any others.I would say I've lost 75% of my hair. My hair is real fine. I love it when it starts growing in because all those short little hairs growing back makes my hair look thick.
Tough to do those Vic commercials bald isn't it?? Hey Ciera..your hair will come back in time. Hope you are feeling well..
Will
Don't worry BoceprevirGal, no one has even noticed my hair loss but me. I still have a ton of hair, but it just goes everywhere. I think I started shedding at about 4 or 5 months. i also bought a shampoo and conditioner called Nioxin, it seemed to help :)
I see you also treated with the Boceprevir. I am on week 11, and havent noticed hair-loss yet. Can you remember when you started noticing hair falling out?
I normally dye my hair, but I'm scared to,in-case this will exacerbate the hair-lose sx~
It took about 5 or 6 weeks for mine to stop falling out.. I'm at about week 8 right now..
Wow, I can't believe no one responded to this thread considering many of us are likely to be in the same boat very soon.
There are actually a lot of good threads in the HCV "archives" about hair loss but since each line item is listed by topic title not every thread you see with the words "hair loss" is helpful.
Last time around I had a profound hair loss that as atypical of treatment for HCV. The kind of diffuse hair shedding you are talking about is medication-related hair loss. Based on what I have seen and read that type of hair loss begins to abate 2 to 6 months after cessation of the med that caused it.
Supplementing Biotin is frequently mentioned however I have yet to encounter anyone who can attest to the fact that it did indeed slow hair loss or promote hair growth. This is whether it is taken orally or applied topically in various hair care products. That does not mean others have not had luck with it so perhaps someone else can weigh in on that one:

Saw Palmetto is supposed to mimic the effect of Propecia (finasteride) without the side effects. Propecia was designed for prostate health and was then found, by accident, to also bring back hair growth lost within 2 years. My derm told me that Propecia will soon be available to women however it does have more than its share of contraindications so I would not count on that one anytime soon.
Silica is also supposed to help however it seems to me more of a hair thickener rather than anything that will slow hair loss/encourage hair growth.
Rogaine (Minoxidil) helps with receding hairline treatment however this requires a lot of independent investigation as well as consult with a specialist as I do not feel comfortable advocating its use since I am not a doctor.
Anyway, there is a lot of misinformation about medication hair loss as it is a different dynamic than genetic hair loss, female pattern hair loss and hair loss related to underlying conditions (e.g., hypothyroidism).
In case you are curious here is a link that explains it:

I posted in this old thread recently since someone else resuscitated it.

Although I can't recall the details, I do know the first time I did tx, I lost hair and it all grew back.
Be patient, it will grow.
Bo~Its the interferon that causes hair loss. It doesn't happen to everyone and can begin at differing times.
