Accidently broke ribavarin pill in half

600 mg.

It broke in half, I took it anyway.

Now I am wondering if this was wrong?

Is it time released-

and if so, did I screw myself and  is there anything I can do now?

Sorry.
I've been so snarly recently.
I blame it on the riba and keep reminding myself to be nice.Oops!

I break tablets in half all the time to swallow them, not riba because they're small.
If it were an aspirin, would you be asking the same question?
Relax.

Throwing it away and taking another .or taking the broken one makes no difference,. Taking multiple doses of Riba ,as we do, has a half life of approx. 2 weeks in serum concentration, therefore overall concentration will not be affected either way....

I did the same thing trying to get the pill out of the carboard pack.  The ribapack instructions say do not break.  I called the 24 hour pharmacy hot  line and they told me to throw it away and take another.  My impression was that it would Just not stay in the system as long.

Pardon me, I've taken as much as 3000 mg/day without discernible problems.

No, even if the drug was time release an extra 600 mg taken as a one time dose won’t likely cause any long term issues by itself. Over the years I’ve mistakenly doubled up on ribavirin, taking as much as 1500 mg/day without significant problems. I wouldn't make a habit of it, but it’s unlikely to cause any issues other than perhaps a bit of upset stomach. Good luck--

i was told that the blue outer coating is used to ease the absorption in the stomach. one of my riba reductions, involved breaking a pill in half and taking it....relax, no big deal...you are fine.

Its a tablet.

blue ribasphere pill. 600 mg.
Drs office has no emergency #, vmail says call 911 or go to nearest emergency room.
Mail order pharmacy that my insurance company makes me use has no pharmacist on call.
Local pharmacy hasnt heard of it.

Just seeing if I should puke it up.

The tablets are not time released but the capsules are.

You are good! What you can do is relax!!!

If you have any questions, give your pharmacist a call
