Great. I hope it does the trick for you. Great your lab is good too.
Thank you so much to all of you!!!
Zofran on the way but not in time for 2pm dose, but I'm hoping I will be Ok. On the up-side first week CBC shows no anemia.
You are the best.
I agree with others above, Zofran worked well for my husband who had only a few days of nausea on all 3 treatments (past and current). He also tried ginger tea, raw ginger, and ginger candy (found in Asian markets) and that seemed to help. It is a vicious cycle, the meds are harder on an empty stomach, probably due to increased acid, but the empty stomach reacts to whatever you put in it. Make sure you do your best to stay hydrated, take your meds with food, and keep your meds down. Perhaps if you take them slowly with a few minutes in between each pill? Call your doc and ask for the prescription for Zofran and try to get it filled today.

zofran...i could never had do it without it..
Are you eating enough fat with your INC. The docs I see give zofran with your other meds It's like a routine order it you get INC you get zofran. Good luck
If it is looking this is how treatment is going to be for you then I agree with those who suggest you contact your doctor for prescription anti-nausea medication. Do not fall for recommendations to try OTC antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) due to the antiemetic properties many OTC products possess. Get something that works *now.* Hope you feel better.
I had a really bad time with nausea and some vomiting. Zofran 8 mg every 8 hours is what worked for me.
"Zofran® (ondansetron hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine that has been licensed to prevent nausea and vomiting due to several causes."
"Nausea (upset stomach) and vomiting are complex processes involving many chemicals in the body and several parts of the body, including the brain and the small intestine.
" It is likely that Zofran works in the small intestine, but it may also work in the brain. The medication blocks serotonin, a chemical produced by the body that is associated with nausea and vomiting. Serotonin has many effects in the body and has several receptors where it can bind. Zofran blocks serotonin at a specific type of receptor (the 5-HT3 receptor)."
"Uses of Zofran include preventing the following:
•Nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy
•Nausea and vomiting due to radiation therapy for cancer
•Postoperative nausea and vomiting that can occur after surgery. "

After I finally got a prescription for Zofran, it worked rapidly and I felt much better within a few hours. If you get a prescription for Zofran, take it regularly. Do not wait until you get nauseated or are vomiting. Zofran works to prevent the nausea and vomiting. When I was on Incivek I took it about an hour before I took the Incivek (every 8 hours). I was always awake going to the bathroom anyway. The key is to take it regularly every 8 hours and not to wait for the nausea and vomiting to appear.
I also found saltine crackers and chicken noodle or chicken rice soup helpful.
I hope you get a prescription Tuesday and feel better soon.
Hi Halfwatt: Zofran gets my vote. Ginger Ale sounds good to me. I intended to eat healthy, but in the end I ate whatever my stomach seemed to tolerate -- cheese sandwiches, cherry pie, lemonade. I recall that Incivek must be taken within a 2-hour window, which means 1 hour before the scheduled time to 1 hour after the scheduled time. Is that also your understanding? Did your evening dose stay down? Cheers, GB
just took 10pm dose (11.50pm) praying it stays down...thank you all again
So sorry about the puking! I had the same problem starting week 2 of the Incivek. I called the hospital where I'm seen (Stanford) in the evenig and asked to speak to the on-call hepatologist. He phoned in an Rx for Zofran to my 24-hour Walgreens so I was able to start it right away. I needed it all the rest of the time I was on Incivek, but it worked like a charm, with no sx (I think that is rare for anti-nausea drugs - most of the others are very sedating, but not this one. I didn't have any more puking once I got that Rx . BTW, I was told by my doctor that most of the other anti-nausea meds are contra-indicated with Incivek due to interactions, but that Zofran (Ondansetron is the generic name) is fine. It USED to be hard to get approved due to expense, but is cheap now that the generic is available. In fact, it is cheap enough now that hardly anybody would blink an eye at paying for it. I would recommend asking for it by name, just to be on the safe side, as we hear occasional tales of surprisingly ignorant treating physicians and you don't want something that will screw up your tx. Good luck!
Until you can get some anti-nausea medicine, these foods are easy to keep down: bananas, white rice, apple-sauce, dry toast. Everybody usually has some white rice lying around, and it is absorbant
thank you all...figure i still have a hour or so before it's 2 hours past normal time...just trying to rest and get ready to try and eat something...worried about domino effect into tomorrow am...thanks again
Agree with Looking Forward, try very hard to make yourself eat something substantial with the next dose. Make sure to get a prescription for an anti-nausea med tomorrow. My husband had this experience only once about a week or two into tx. He got a precription for Zofran, but only needed to take it a few times. Hoping it passes for you, too.
not sure if i'm done puking so eating is questionable but i am starting to try nibble soda crackers and a little ginger ale...yes re time zone - all other doses taken on time so far
Yes that would make sense, Portland time, thanks looking.
Time zone difference maybe?
When you say your about to take your next dose in a half hour that would be 11 hours since your 2 pm dose, that would concern me more as for effecting treatment response.......... Good luck to you.
I know that the nausea can be debilitating. Have you been prescribed anti nausea medicine yet? If not ask for it from your doctor, tomorrow! He may prescribe something like phenergan or compazine. Many people here use Zofran, but it can be a little more difficult to be approved by insurance.
I also found that Prilosec OTC taken at bedtime really really helped me with the whole indigestion nausea thing.
For tonight, I would just suggest trying to eat something substantial (not just forcing something down because it's the 20g of fat) for your food dose before you take your meds. Take as long as you can to eat. Take your meds and sit up for a bit to let things settle . Drink your water.
Call your doctor tomorrow.
Cheers.
