Hep C Post Treatment Questions

Good day folks,

2 months ago I finished 24 weeks of treatment (I call it hell but that's the past).  I did the incivek one.  So far everything looks good.  At the 12 week mark I got a very bad rash.  Now 2 months post treatment I still find that I am still weak but I know it takes time.  My skin has not returned to 100% either.  After my rash went away and I shed layers of skin off I was left with what looked like bruises in some areas.  These bruises look like they are fading but still worry me.  The hep c also caused my kidneys to act up and I am battling nephrotic syndrome as a result.  1 dragon down 1 more to go.  energy levels increasing daily :)  It was a battle and I wish everyone well and don't give up. I cheers you all and all the stories I read good and bad kept me going so to all the bloggers - thanks.

Has anyone else experienced what looks like bruises and how long till they disappeared?
How long till my body has naturally detoxed from all the meds?
How long till my skin goes back to normal?

Cheers!!!

The Eucerin cream.  I had forgotten about that.  Thanks for the reminder!

Congratulations on finishing treatment! I will try to address your questions.

"Has anyone else experienced what looks like bruises and how long till they disappeared?"
---------------------------------------------------
I had a lot of skin and rash issues during and after finishing Incivek, Interferon, and Ribavirin. Some of the skin rashes eventually looked like old bruises, the brownish discoloration (still have some of them 18 months post treatment).  Others faded. Maybe the remaining will fade too eventually. Some of the rash issues may have been bleeding of the capillaries and that is why they look like old bruises. Bottom line is that I don't really know what yours look like so it is difficult to offer more than a general opinion from my own experience. I would suggest seeing a Dermatologist to be sure you don't have something else going on (that needs treatment).

"How long till my body has naturally detoxed from all the meds?"
----------------------------------------------
It takes about 6 months for all of the Interferon and Ribavirin to get out of the body. Most people feel considerably better by that time. However, it can take up to a year or even longer for some to feel like their owl selves. The medications are harsh so it takes time.

"How long till my skin goes back to normal?"
---------------------------------------------------
After the medications are completely out of your system, your skin should improve considerably. However, some people continue to have skin issues, rash issues, or very dry skin for a long time. I would suggest using a very good moisturizer such as Eucerin cream (cream, not lotion).

If you are having rash issues, I would suggest seeing a Dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment.

Hopefully you are seeing a Nephrologist for your kidney problems.

Best of luck. Wishing you SVR.
