Hep c & alcohol

I was diagnosed w/ hep c 2yrs ago during a hospital stay....I od on loratab & spent 8days n the hospital recovering...it's crazy cause while nearly killing myself, the docs say I killed the virus...it's been a couple yrs now & I'm back drinking heavily...it's a demon that won't leave me be :-(  can drinking heavy cause the virus to come back? Or is it, once your cured, as long as you don't come in contact w/infected blood, your cured?

I've had a few post tx, and no concerns, as long as you're svr.

It sounds like you need help with your addictions. If you do have hep C the worst thing you can do is drink alcohol. It's like pouring gasoline on a fire.

Oh and drinking cannot give you Hepatitis c or cause it to come back.  But You might get Alcoholic Hepatitis from the drinking.

Loratab wont get rid of HCV in any amount .  If it did i am sure many of us here would take the near death amount of that instead of going through months and months of treatment with the current Standard of Care.  Just kidding but it wouldn't it be tempting.  : )  You may have just tested positive for the Antibody but they did not follow through with a viral load test. Or they did the viral load test and it was undetectable.  1 in 5 people can fight off the virus but will still have the antibody for life. or the tests could be a false negative or positive. Sounds like that doctor wasnt well informed about HCV.  That is not uncommon at all.  I would go and get retested.
