I had always wondered that myself, never got a straight answer.
Infergen is not a inteferon produced by the body, it is a designed one, unlike the other inteferons, the liver produces.
Your right Cruel it does not stay on the body, it leaves much quicker.
Thanks that really clears it up for me.
I guess if I chose tx it will be a whole different experience and I can't really compare.
guess I should add that interferon alfa used for Hep C is PEGylated (has attached polyethlene glycol) which makes it stay in the blood longer, so once per week injection. Interferon beta is in not PEGylated and must be injected 3x weekly.
The interferon used for Hep C is Interferon alfa. The one used for MS is Interferon Beta. They are not interchangable. Interferon beta is not effective against Hep C, and interferon alfa is not efffective against MS.
"Mom"
ive tried to research this to compare concentrations and dosing levels.
it is also taken for skin cancer and once again its a whole new set
of medicines.
it appears that the interferons are kind of all the same thing but just a different
name and strength and flavor. it seems like the ms versions are more like
infergen in the sense that the doses are smaller than ours but still pretty
strong but this is just a guess. 3 times a week would tell you that it wears off
more quickly and would probably be more like an infergen. i would guess that it has no time release component.
I don't know if it's same interferon, but I imagine the side effects are similar. In hep c treatment, however, we also have ribavirin which has its own set of side effects.
