HCV RNA positive

Hi,
I am 39 years of age,
my HCV RNA is positive showing 243435 IU/ml
Exponential value - 2.43E+05
log valve 5.39
What does that mean am i at risk, please be brutually truthful, should i start treatment
currently i have no medical problem

I got my liver elastography
results are

fatty infiltration of liver with normal stiffness of the liver parenchyma noted on elastogrpahy with arfi value of .93 - 1.32 mt/sec. liver is normal in size.

what should i do now

I got genotyping done it is 1, age of the disease is not known, but as of now i have no health problem, should i start treatment or get biopsy done.

Hi Munish,

Your viral load is on the low side, however that has nothing to do with how much liver damage you have.  Your viral load alone does not have anything to do with risk levels so that information on it's own isn't enough to say you what your risk level is.

How long have you known that you have Hep C?  Do you know if this was a recent infection?  That's important - if you think you're newly infected within the last three months then treatment at this stage would be important.

If you think you've had Hep C for awhile then next step would be to get a liver biopsy if you can manage it to determine how much liver damage you have.  That's the important part in determining risk.  As well, you can get a blood test done that will test different levels such as AST, ALT and platelets to add more information to what your status is.

In general, Hep C is a slow moving disease but that biopsy will help tell you what your actual situation is.

You have HCV, I'm sorry. Now you need todetermine genotype and the amount of liver damage if any, before you decide about treatment.  Good luck here is some infocfor you.
