All i can tell you is that Im more gassy now then I ever have been before and it doesnt matter what I eat, hopefully someone on here can answer this questions for you, interesting thought.
I'm passing a lot more gas since being on the program but it not painful or discomforting.
Just think it's a response to the Ribavirin.
I am sitting here laughing my butt off........not AT you but just remembering.......You ain't seen nuttin' yet!!
I don't know what causes it but it got so bad (smell) that I couldn't even blame the dog.
Denise
Are you treating yet?
I have seen some mention of increased flatulence during treatment but I cannot recall anything about HCV and flatulence.
I think, in general, flatulence is due in large part to diet.
Mike
I dunno Mike, The stuff didn't increase the flatulence it just smelled awful. Almost like poison was leaving the body. It just hit me, eggs, fresh eggs were a killer. but my normal diet was chicken soup, broth, carnation instant breakfasts, all bland.
Denise
No, I haven't started treatment yet. Please don't tell me it is going to get worse when I do!!!! My family may move me into the garage.
I really don't know Diane but Denise seems to think it might.
I treated for a long time and don't recall that particular problem but I may have been too sick to notice the first two times I treated. The third time I wasn't nearly as sick and I know I didn't have a that problem.
What makes farts stink?
The odor of farts comes from small amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas and mercaptans in the mixture. These compounds contain sulfur. Nitrogen-rich compounds such as skatole and indole also add to the stench of farts. The more sulfur-rich your diet, the more sulfides and mercaptans will be produced by the bacteria in your guts, and the more your farts will stink. Foods such as cauliflower, eggs and meat are notorious for producing smelly farts, whereas beans produce large amounts of not particularly stinky farts.

I hope your situation improves Diane.
Mike
When you put it that way, farts don't seem so fun. I wonder where blue-green algae comes in.
Just set fire to them. See if they are the yellow streamers or the blue darters. ;-) a lot less annoying that way. Your coworkers will appreciate that too!
I'm sure the blue-green algae figures prominently into this discussion. Adding that to your diet might well render what would ordinarily be the most odoriferous wind absolutely lack luster and perhaps even unrecognizable.
Thanks for calling that to my attention.
Mike
I guess that I really don't understand how the MedHelp stars are awarded. But, with an answer like that you should get a few extra. That's how Goofy got his.
Hi Diane, maybe something to look into???

Good luck going forward.
I know can it cando :)
increase your pre & probiotics.
Thanks Ya'll!!!
May not have solved my problem, but you sure made me laugh a lot!
I feel better anyhow... Susan, I'll keep your last paragraph in mind when the kids get on my nerves.
I had a horrible problem with this too until I discovered I was lactose intolerant. I cut all diary and the issue went away.
Until the mystery is solved you can try catching them in a Jar and releasing them outside later.
I finally got a chance to check out that site. I had no idea there were so many questions about the subject. Very interesting read.
Now that definitely ISN"T what I need.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
I can hear my 13 year old now.......
It's important to remember that gas and bloating are vague symptoms that can be associated with many medical diseases, so consultation with your primary care provider should always be the first step,,When someone has persisting bloating and flatulence, lab tests and x-rays are first conducted to exclude the presence of medical disease. Colorectal cancer often presents with the symptoms of abdomen discomfort and bloating. Celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease may have similar symptoms
During tx my family had to evacuate the lounge more than once!!! We laugh about it now but it was horrible omitting such sulphuric dead-animal smells - they must've though I was rotting inside - I personally put it down to the riba.
I agree Kristina, I think it's so strong that it works like caustic soda in pipes. It loosens up all the crap... expensive, toxic colon cleanse
I can't remember ever seeing HCV being associated with gas pre-tx and don't think I had a problem with it during tx. I really didn't eat much during tx, though, and maybe that kept things quiet down there.
I think there was a gas thread (!), which was a lot of fun for the folks involved. Maybe someone has the link.
Are you possibly getting too MUCH fiber in your diet?
Anyway, the garage could be a nice little escape for you from the family, when you find you want to get away from them.
It was surprising how little I wanted to see my guys during treatment; you may just find they annoy you, once those gorgeous pills and injections start playing with your disposition. And then the gas will sure come in handy to shoo them away.
