did I catch hepatitis C virus ?

I'm at grandpa's and I just hit the corner of the desk and got a cut.My grandpa has hepatitis C and he said that he hit that corner before too but he didn't say if it bleed or not.I don't want to ask him so I won't hurt his feelings.Anyways,I've been here for around 3-4 days and he never mentioned that he got a cut. From what I know, hepatitis C virus can live from 16 hours to 4 days outside the human body. What are the chances ?

I think you should be alright. My best friend,
of the last 25 yrs has Hep C, genotype 2, and we have taken many vacations together over the years, etc, and I never caught her genotype 2, and she never caught my genotype 1.
We never shared a tooth-brush or razor, but still,
we shared a bathroom many times, etc

No you do not need to get tested.....

Stop worrying yourself with this nonsense!

Go enjoy your stay with grandpa. Don't let a disease ruin the time spent with him. Especially since HCV is one of the hardest diseases to catch.

Best of luck

OK I feel better now, thanks. But do you think I should get tested or it's not necessary ? After 3 months of course because I know that the virus may not be detectable before 3 months pass.

Please educate yourself as much as possible about HCV since someone so close to you has it.  Your fears then should be eleviated and there would be no chance of hurting his feelings in the future. There is so much information on this forum and on the internet.

The chances are almost zero, the blood actually has to mingle to get the virus, I think there is a lot of paranoia about the hep c virus, but it is always good to be cautious.
