not take antidepressant while on tx

I have been on wellbutrin for a year or more for depression so my GI Dr did hesitate to start my tx in July  He usually won't start tx unless he has his pt on some kind of antidepressant for a full month  I have suddenly devloped a problem with anything that has a stimulant effect on the body  I can't drink coffee or tea or even eat chocolate without feeling my heart beating too fast and getting extremely nauseated  Has anyone else had this problem  Wellbutrin has a stimulant effect and I have been getting really sick.to my stomach when I take it  So I took my last dose on Christmas eve  I felt really sick from it  And almost missed out on the fun  I absolutely couldn't eat most of the day  I quit cold turkey and now my family is telling me that I'm not acting normally  I'm depressed of course but they are saying I'm having terrible mood swings  And I guess they  are right  I have  The Dr was saying that I'm a little anemic  I don't know what the current number is but he said that 2 months ago it was at 9 and it had been steadily droppng since I started tx He said if it gets down to 8 he would treat it  He called and said I was still und a few days ago and that I wasn't down to 8 yet so no need to treat  Could my lowered hemoglobin levels have cause my problems with stimulants  I read that anemia can cause a rapid heart rate  I have always had an irregular heartbeat but I'm not sure he knows that    I will call abot a new antidepressant tomorrow He likes celexa usually  Is that a good one  I also have a terrible time getting to sleep but once I do I sleep a really long time  I was in tx in 2009 and had lots of side effects but these are different I  didn't get anemic at all last as far as I know  Sorry for so many questions  It's 4:30  am and I feel like I will never go to sleep  my heart feels like it won't slow down  I just took Xanax so hopefully it will help and I case you didn't notice my thougjts are racing faster than I can type  Thanks in advance for listening

Wellbutrin is a stimulating AD and so is the Riba. Maybe you should have the pharmacy do a check on combining the two drugs. I would think you needed something more that has a calming effect. What I found out and my doctor never told me..That the Valium I was taking with incivek will cause a 10 mg valium to reach a level equal to 30 mg valium. Now I know why I slept through the incivek but after stopping the incivek I had horrible anxiety I thought was the riba but maybe withdrawals. Who knows, we can only guess.  There is so much to know about the drugs we take and how they interact with the tx drugs, wellbutrin would have been my last choice. Just my opinion.....

Glad you got some rest. That's my #1 cure all these days. Wellbutrin is the only thing I ever tried.. A couple of years before I was diagnosed. My heart raced also. I haven't tolerated caffeine well for years n it made it worse. I went off. Treatment dr gave me an Rx a couple of months ago, but I'm still waiting to fill it.
I hope ur dr gets you something. Holidays are tough cause offices are closed. Hold on tight n take care.. Xoxoxo Karen :)

Thank yo for the reply to my questions. I slept until  3:30 today. I called my GI and left a message about the antidepressant. What I was thinking is that my anemia was raising my heart rate already and when you add anything else like tea or coffee or Wellbutrin, it just raises it more  And I just am having trouble tolerating any more heart racing   It feels like that weird feeling you get when you've had too much caffeine But I havent been taking taking in any caffiene.  I feel my heart beating, nausea, light headed and sweaty. I know the Hep c meds can do this but any other stimulant added to it makes it alot worse for me. The last time I drank coffee, I threw up all day. I don't do that when I avoid stuff like that. Unfortunately since stopping the Wellbutrin I don't even trust my own mind. And my family agrees.  They have noticed strange mental changes in me. I need to do something. Thanks again for your time.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Normally one is supposed to taper wellbutrin. It should not be stopped abruptly. You could be having some side effects from stopping it abruptly. It is also possible that the wellbutrin was not what was causing the nausea and rapid heart rate. It may have been the other drugs and/or the anemia.

I have been quite nauseated while on treatment and have been taking Zofran for the nausea. I am sure it is the treatment drugs and not the wellbutrin. I never had any trouble with wellbutrin. The Zofran helps a great deal. I have also found that I just cannot eat many foods that I used to enjoy. They either do not taste good anymore or they make me feel nauseated. I blame that on the Hep C meds, not wellbutrin. (I am not saying wellbutrin could not be causing it, but if you ave been on welbutrin for a year and have had no problems until starting treatment, then I would suspect the Hep C drugs.)

I think if I were you I would get an appointment ith the doctor and discuss all of these problems and go forward from there. I wish you the best.

Anemia definitely causes a more rapid heart rate. Mine is 11.2 and I can feel and hear my heart beating al of the time, especially at night. It seems to be pounding and it is over 100 all of the time now whereas it is normally about 70. If your Hgb is in the 8-9 range, I am sure you are sypmptomatic from it. The heart has to work much harder and faster to get oxygen to your organs when one is anemic.
