Insomnia after treatment

Hello Everyone,

I'm getting close, tomorrow is my last INF injection (#48), then a week of ribavirin then I'm done. Hurray!!

I've had such issues with insomnia and getting the right medication. Everything that worked for awhile stopped and at one point I was up for 5 days straight hallucinating. That was kind of a bummer but I had a lot of support through it and my wonderful doctors helped me return to normal.

So my question is, how long will insomnia last after treatment, assuming I correctly taper down what I'm on now. Would one expect a week or 2 weeks, or would normal sleep come as soon as medications are stopped?

Thanks

Thanks for the information. I just get a little anxious about the sleep because I've had such a problem with it. I want to make sure I taper down slowly but I think there must be so much ribavirin build up it will take a little bit of time.

Thanks for sharing everyone. I know everyone is different, but there might be a couple out there like me :)

I've found that changing your sleep meds occasionally (using Ambien for awhile, OTC Melatonin for awhile, etc.) as each reaches a point of diminishing returns can help. As always, length of time after tx to regain a normal sleep pattern "is different for everyone" and depends a lot on your pre-tx sleep patterns.
Good luck.

Hi and congratulations for being almost done.  I'm almost 3 months post treatment with Sovaldi and Ribavirin.   You are almost at the finish line and when your done, the meds remain in your system somewhat.  Know the Ribavirin can be hanging around for up to 6 months.  Not sure  about the interferon. For me, I started to sleep much better around 1 month post meds.    The more water you drink after treatment the sooner you will feel normal as the meds need to be flushed out.  6 weeks post, felt great.  You will be so happy that you did treatment.   This Sovaldi is amazing.   I wish you continued SVR, and a new beginning.   These meds are life changing.
Be well.      Kim
