Last dose of incivek!

I just took my last dose of incivek at 10 p.m..... yaaaaaay! haven't been on here in 3 weeks because my last 3 weeks have been horrendous.... constant room-spinning, difficulty breathing, nauseaus, dizzy, weak, and unbelievable constant headache with no relief from ibuprofen... also my blood pressure has been high (lower number consistently at 98 for last two months)... hopefully this will improve... i can't wait to feel different!!!  and hopefully my worst sx were from the incivek seeing how i have to be on inf/rib for 9 more months....

Thank you all for your support!! I did go to see all my docs and the last was with my liver specialist. She was new to me due to mine is out on maternity leave she was wonderful she changed my ointment to clobetasol propionate
which seems to have help some new scripts for 25 mg Hydroxezine along with some other things as well.

She even went as far to take take pictures due to the severity of my rash and was deeply concerned..

She is talking about cutting my Incevik 2 weeks short unless my rash calms  or gets much better!

I knew this was not going to be easy but I am in it far the long haul and don't want to stop, Trying to get through it !!

I think you all the in put..

Sincerely

Congratulations, I have been off incv for 10 weeks now and definitely have improved. I started feeling better within 1 week and steadly improved. By week 3 of being off the incv, the incv issues were gone (nausea, diarrhea and headaches).
Still dealing with sides from the inf/riba, anemia, joint pain, weakness, low grade fever after shot, cough and brain fog. I know this too will pass. Three weeks to go and still undetectable I appears as though it was worth the fight.
Stay the course you are almost there. Soon it will be a distant memory. Try to keep in mind why you treated in the first place. The treatment is temporary, but the disease will be with you until you kill it and its little cousins.
Good luck, hang in there,

Highly recommend the fluocininide ointment from the doctor, along with a prescription strength antihistamine.  Stopped my husband's itching immediately.  You are calling the doctor today, aren't you?  Once they've ruled out that the rash isn't serious, they should be able to prescribe the above right away.   Just hang on to the fact that the side effects seem to come and go, and you won't necessarily feel this way for the next 3 weeks.

Have you seen your doctor about this full body rash? If not, it is imperative that you contact him or her today and ask to be seen today about the rash. Be sure to tell the doc how severe it is so he/she will know you must be seen today. (You may also need to see a dermatology doctor.) If you ave blistering it is especially important to see the doc today.

I am not sure which med you are on, Incivek or Victrellis, but I do know Incivek can cause a very serious rash that can be potentially life threatening. That is why you need to be seen to make sure your rash is not one of the more serious rashes.

Even if your rash is not of the very serious nature, the doc should order some prescriptions for you to treat the rash.

When my rash blossomed (at week 10) the over the counter meds did nothing. My doctor ordered fluocinonide ointment which stopped the itching almost right away. I saw the dermatology doc and she ordered Hydroxyzine 20 mg at night and Zyrtec 10 mg in am. The three of them did the trick, at least helped a lot. I still have the rash and it has been 11 weeks. It clears up in the worst spots and then moves over. So I have to keep changing where i apply the ointment. Overall, it is better than it was and it is resolving, just slowly. The itching is under control and that is a major factor.

Here is a link to some Incivek rash photos with their seriousness:

Riba rash, to me, looks the same. I don't know how one would tell them apart. (Mine is most likely a Riba rash since I still have it and I stopped taking Incivek on Dec. 18th. )

I hope you are soon feeling better.

I am on the new triple therapy and just have started week 10 on Thursday evening and feel like I am going to crawl out of my skin. The past five days of my life on this protocol have been a living hell.. Any one out there have any suggestions for my full blown body rash and constant itching....

Due the fact that I am @ stage three/four with cirrhosis I am committed to doing the full forty eight weeks!! Just trying to make it through the next three weeks without crawling out of my skin?/??/??

Regarding Victrelis -- no, , 44 - that is 4 weeks soc and 44 weeks VIC is not the response guided therapy.  That full 48 weeks is the requirement if you have any cirrhosis, which I do.   If you do not, the treatment can be cut to 28 weeks depending on UND at 8 weeks and 12 weeks

It is just amazing to me how this treatment (Peg, Risa, Incivek) can affect you.  I feel horrible right now.  Yesterday I could not get out of bed.  This am I was thinking of quitting the Incivek and going on with the rest.
After reading that you got through the last 3 weeks you have given me the strength to go on.  Is it ok just to sit around and breathe?  I feel like I should feel better than this but maybe I am just having a bad day, less than 4 weeks to go with the Incivek
Thank you

Congratulations!  I have 4 fun filled weeks of the Incivek.  I hope I feel better when I can finally stop that.  I will still have Peg and Riba but hope to feel a little better

@halbev, thanks so much for the advice on continuing to eat fat till the incivek has been flushed out,(no pun there goofydad) I never thought of that.  I just thought I would right away go back to my no fat, no sugar low cards, etc
Now I am rethinking that.  Is that another reason for the fat?  I thought it increased the amount of Incivek in our body and helped with a slow absorption rat.  Oh who knows what I thought :)
I think I just like to hear myself type :)

Best wishes to you all
Dee

That is why I love this forum and all the people on it we have so much support, love tips, hints advice it really helps me get through this.

is 44 weeks the standard protocol for VIC?

shanro - glad you made it through it. INC certainly is a rough tx.  I wish they had spent more time refining it to get rid of some of those sides.

sunny , I don't regret my decision to do the VIC even though I will have to do it for 44 weeks.  At least that is now, at week 10 (6 of VIC).  I may be singing a different song when all of you INCies are on straight SOC for awhile and I am still doing the triple.  We shall see.

I am right behind you, only got a few more days myself - I too had the same experiences with sides that you shared. I look forward to stopping the INC.  There have been some remarks made on this forum by those that did not do Incevik regarding people not being able to handle this drug.  It is a harsh drug and has kicked alot of us while we were on it.  I talked with my PA about that yesterday, she thinks there will be some modifications to the treatment protocol next year due to the number of those that have had to quit from intolerable sides.  I did 48 weeks of SOC several years ago, and these past 12 weeks have been sheer hell compared to all 48 weeks with SOC.  It was like a walk in the park just doing INT and RIBA, in comparison.  In my case it was tolerable until the start of week 11 then the poop hit the fan.  LOL I think if I had to do it over I would have opted to go with VIC, those that I see type in here seem to have a pretty easy go of it.  Let's hope we both see UND 12 week PCR's, and that you get to feeling better soon - Sunny

The last weeks of incevik are the worst.  I thought I would feel better right away, I did in some ways but still there is an adjustment, I am 1 week post completion of incevik and rectal issues hit late in treatment, last 2 weeks and still sore but better.

OH YA !!!!
It took 9 days for rectal burning to show up, so you will think you are in the clear and HELLO!!!

Congrats !!
I finished 2 weeks ago and feel much better now.
Also watch out for just stopping your FAT intake, you need it still, to clear out the Med's. I stopped or dropped Fat to low and developed rectal burning, Started eating more fat and it is going away quickly.

I can totally relate. I'm just starting my fourth week and I'm so sick of the fat already.

Shanro - congrats on ur last dose of Incivek!!! I know everyone is different, but it sounds like one can recover from the Incivek portion fairly fast. I've done 48 weeks of the dual therapy/SOC. It's definitely not fun. But the Incivek this time has made it so much more difficult. Good luck to you. Please keep us posted. It's so great to hear how others are progressing and getting through this.

You will see a big improvement in many areas. It's still a tough tx, but that telaprevir is a dragon slaying butt kicker! And just think of the diet! I'm back on my liver loving diet n feel so much better w/o fat! Kudos n congrats! Xo Karen :)

Great you hung in there.  Certainly you should feel better since you are taking that one doozy of Dragon killer out of the picture.  I know I did and it didnt take long.  Of course I dont know how you will be reacting to the ongoing riba and interferon.    I have not had to many problems except for being in constant brain fog and some other mental bi-polar type behavior.  is that the new buzz phrase for Dr Jackel and Mr Hyde?   Oh, thats right, it's called Riba Rage.  yeah, watch out that one.   :)  Best wishes
