did you stop your RA medicines in addition to taking milk thistle ? That may hve helped in reducing the enzymes.
first let me ask, are you the miss vickie that was married to tiny tim? did you do any drugs with him back in the day? sorry you dont have to answer, i'm getting way to personal. anyway about your liver tests, like the others said many things can cause higher numbers, alcohol, prescription drugs, fatty liver, etc, etc. I would not worry about hepatitis at this point. have another test in a month making sure you do not drink for a week before and take only necessary meds. Also tell your doc you want a hepatitis panal done at the same time. best of luck
Before you take any herbal medicine, I strongly urge you to take the advice on one of the earlier posters: Take the test again in another month and then see a hepatologist if they are still abnormal.
The experience of one person with milk thistle is not indicative of anything. They could have had a virus other than a chronic one - any number of them will elevate liver enzymes and then go into remission. This is not to say that milk thistle did not help - it is just that it might easily have been something totally unrelated.
I will just share something that helped me, I have RA and on lots of meds...my family doctor called me at home about 5 years ago and told me my liver enzymes reading were the highest he had ever seen in all his years of practice. I did allot of research on my own, as I turned down a liver biopsy....and I discovered milk thistle...read about....I started taking it against what my family dr said, but my RA specialist said you have nothing to loose, I took it for approximately 3 years and all my liver enzyme readings have gone to normal. I have been off of milk thistle for at least one and half years and my readings are all normal.. It may have been all my strong meds that affected the liver, but milk thistle repaired it.....read for yourself on the net about it and give it a try. I am not a doctor nor nurse but I do know it worked for me.....only my opinion....
drinking can cause high liver enzymes...billy
Not necessarily hepatitis C. Don't panic. Show to a gastro and repeat the tests after 1 month.
