Curious

How many of you currently smoke and/or drink and what is your status with your HCV.  Do you think smoking and/or drinking plays a large role in your current situation?

Someone said something on one of the questions about having Tylenol at the ready - I thought Tylenol was an absolute no-no for someone with HCV.

Soooo much to learn

Alcohol  has a definite hastening effect of liver fibrosis. Any one with HCV should drink NO alcohol.

Effects of smoking are less clear... however  there is data to suggest the same about cigarettes..and to also have an adverse effect to treatment.

Do your self a huge favor...stop drinking (if you do  and give up the smokes ..if you do )

Tylenol is ok in amounts never to exceed  prescribed dosages..and like any drug we take ..to take the least amount possible and for the least amount of time..as the liver  needs to work harder  with all medications.

Good luck

I quit smoking in May of this year, I found out I had hep c in March. My Dr said it would be better if I did quit smoking plus I carry a gene that predisposes me to copd and emphysema, that was enough for me. The drinking was not a problem last drink I had was last Thanksgiving and it was a corona light, before that I dont remember the last time I had a drink.
I would seriously consider quitting both if I were you, be better for the treatment, you will be taking all kinds of meds and I would think smoking would complicate it and drinking is not good for the liver at all and most on the forum will tell you that. And others on the forum have different information as to the tylenol while on tx. personally it does nothing for me and Dr said I could take aleve, I forget who mentioned it on here but it may have to do with the degree of damage to your liver wether you can take one or the other or something else. Lots of people with more info than me can answer just about any question you may have. I will be starting tx end of july, so I am still learning as well. 1a 13.9million vl
