just took shot 37.

my alt is 73 and ast 65.

when should I be expecting it to start dropping?  My dr. said he would really have liked for it to be in the normal range by now.

what do you think is going on?  I am only taking drugs rxd by my doc. and that isn't much besides the riba and interferon.  synthroid, occasional xanax, occasional fioricet    sometimes phenergan when needed.  that is it.  not even tylenol or advil or aspirin.  absolutely no alcohol.  oh yeah, and procrit once a week.

should I be concerned?

I think you're right.  Just have to wait.  I've never had normal GGT.  Not one time all through tx.  It's always been elevated which is an indication of some type of liver damage.  They also use GGT levels to determine if someone is using alcohol.  Haven't drank in years and I know my liver is not in the best shape so I don't worry about it.

Hope your enzymes normalize as tx progresses.

the fioricet and phenergan are just when the migraines kick in.  not very often anymore.

Guess I just wait......sure want to be normal!

My doctor said that they usually go down but sometimes they just bounce all over the place during treatment.  Good luck.

Some people never get to normal range for ast/alt during treatment.  It's not unusual, there's nothing you can do about it and worrying about it is not the best use of your time. Take your meds on time, show up for the labs, stay active, eat well - those are the things that you can do something about.

I'm in the same boat as you.  In fact my alt, ast had dropped to the 20's my first month of tx.  My 13th week and they are higher now than when I started tx, alt 64 ast, 55.  Like you I am very concerned, but they keep telling me not to worry about it because it could be caused by a lot of things.  Well that sure doesn't make me feel any better.

I noticed your on synthroid and I am too and having thyroid problems while on tx.  I was told it could be caused by my thyroid being out of whack.  Now that makes sense, because it does control alot of things in the body.  My TSH has been way high since week four of tx , which is when my enzymes starting going back up a few weeks after.

I'm also on Xanax so that couldn't be it because I was on them when the enzymes dropped.

Meant by both drugs:  phenegran and fioricet.

Fioricet has acetaminophen and barbituate in it.  Don't know how frequently you take that medication but could be effecting your enyzmes.  It is advised to use caution if liver disease is present with both drugs but that usually applies to most rx.
