My mom says...

My mom says that people that are on medicines have higher enzyme levels and I know that. But im only on methadone. Thats it and I dont think that would be enough to elevate them but im still hoping which she is too, but im not gonna get let down again so im preparing myself for the worst. Ive had ENOUGH letdowns in my life for the entire country. I know thats exaggerating but seriously, I cant take much more and keep this possy attitude I dont think. My love for the lord and the faith in him that I have that he will see me through it is about all thats keeping me sane through all this mess ive been through in the past 10yrs, and the last 5 for sure cause ive been through hell! So, what I guess im asking is what does anyone else think so I can tell her. Does anyone think, putting the fact that I tested positive for the anitbodies aside, that poeple with decent cholesterol, but slightly high triglicerydes(fat in the blood) could have slightly high enzymes? I dont want her to be letdown either, so im trying to prepare her now, cause right now, she isnt accepting it really. She has been there for me through it all, and I hate it for her as much as I hate it for me. I hate I put her through this stuff!! ANd i do know that no one is a doctor, just opinions is all I ask for? I have to wait until May, the end of May before I can do viral load test so....its a little aggravating and we get like this at times.

I don't know your history but if you are not HIV+ I wouldn't worry about it. But I would be careful - as always.

I got the most part of that but it was a lil bit over my head, maybe....lol!! Its says that methadone makes your immune system not so strong so if you got AIDS, it aint to good. And the rest of it, I think I got it, but I really cant explain it. If you would like to interpret it better for me, that would be great. But thanks either way.

And nygirl..the bottom lie is that my enzymes are up, and for what? Ive looked at anything and everything that could be causing it and I come up with nothing, all but my trigycerydes are still open for discussin but we both know what probably has them up. But almost everyone on here, well a few anyways, think that assuming the worst, the almost obvious to me is being negative and its catastrophic thinking. But something has them elevated and they also think me trying to figure it out myself is stupid, and I agree to a certain extinct but common sense goes along way where im from. But I do get what theyre saying, but ughhh. I guess ive learned alot from all you guys, and I do appreciate it, without knowing forsure I have Hep and im going with what I do know and trying to do the only thing I can.

And I hate waiting cause wait broke the wagon but ive got to get certified and my money is going to good places but I dont have the money for that test I need at the moment and my dag gone appointment, with the Chapell Hill doctors is not until May anyways so I have to wait unless I got an extra 500.00 around somewhere. All im sayin is, im feeling a little helpless at the moment and thissuks!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, for the people who want to talk and be cool, im here and I like to run my mouth and talk and shoot the breeze and I type really fast and read as fast, but for the jerks, plz, id rather not ya know. I appreciate everyone and more than likely oneday im going to be helping people like me cause ill have some knowledge and experience under my belt just like all of you and I hope I can help them cause this place can do alot for people who feel alone with this so everyone should remember that because they should know how it feels to have just found out and to feel alone. Everyone has a past of some sort!

i know the subs aren't the same thing but since I beat hep my enzymes have been around 10 when previously they were in the 200s last time I was tested, so I seriously dont think it has anything to do with it.  Doctors have to know that many people on methadone have liver disease - it's just a fact of our sad mistakes.

"....Studies of methadone's effect on the liver have shown that methadone is not toxic to this organ, even in patients with severe chronic liver disease.(8,11,12)  It also has been suggested that methadone reduces the effectiveness of the body's immune system, a critical complication that, if true, could have serious consequences for the acquisition of AIDS. Although immunology alterations are common among methadone-maintained patients, these alterations are largely attributable to preexisting chronic liver disease (caused by hepatitis or alcohol abuse), an illness common among IV drug abusers, and not attributable to methadone.(9,13) ...."

Pretty much all I was asking, was if anyone knew if Methadone could raise your liver enzymes thinking maybe someone might know. Maybe someone else on here could shed some light but I got reminded by Hector how stupid I once was so im a little upset at the time but I wil post back and thanks to everyone on here that gives good advice. Everyone has a past!

I used Heroin for 9mths before I got off of it. The doctors where giving me Tusinex for many months due to a nodule in my lung that was causing a severe cough. My body was rejecting the spot in my lung. Thank God and its gone at  the time. But I lost my medical insurance cause I had paid all those co pays trying to get the cough to stop. It lasted for two yrs and my music was my life, but I couldnt sing and cough so, it come to a stop. I was self medicating cause I didnt want it to stop. And because I had to or be sick. I didnt know what withdrawels where or addiction and I didnt ask for it either. I was a functioning addict and no one even knew it cause I wasnt the kind of person to get all screwed up. I done what I needed to to survive if you know what I mean. But I never stole, or prostituted once for it! NEVER!! So, most of the time I was sick! Ill be back to post more! And again thanks to everyone for their time and good advice. But id rather you didnt if you just want to make me feel bad!

First of all, I know it is scary that you "might" have contracted hepatitis C.
Remember, you tested positive for the HCV anitbodies ONLY. There is a chance that your body was able to rid itself of the virus on its own.

You will not know if you have hepatitis c until you see the results of your viral load test. It is unfortunate that you have to wait until May to find out if you have hep c. You may be worrying about nothing.

If not, and you are diagnosed with chronic hep c then you are in the same boat as many of us here. It is not the end of the world. HCV is a curable illness (!) and new treatment should be out later this year that will be the most effective treatment ever! This is great news for many here. Also, most people with HCV do not die from HCV and liver disease. Even in the worse case it takes many decades for the virus to destroy the liver. Enzyme levels have NOTHING to do with the extent of liver disease so there is no need to Enzyme levels have NOTHING to do with the extent of liver disease so there is no need to exaggerate the possible extent of your illness.

I assume you used heroin at some point? Heroin is much more dangerous then hepatitis c. Each time you used you didn't know if you would OD or not. You survived that, didn't you? Now you you are changing your ways. That is MUCH "harder" then having hepatitis c.

Higher enzyme levels? What do you mean by high?
Many people have "high" liver enzymes and high enzymes can be caused by many things other then HCV.

Letting no of some of the negative, catastrophic, thinking might be helpful.
Good luck. Stay clean that is the most important thing.

Your mother is right, that certain medications can cause an increase in your enzyme levels.  That occurred for me while I was on treatment and was also taking antibiotics.  We had to switch to a different type when the one they initially had me on caused an increase in enzymes.  I have no idea what impact methadone would have on that, however some medicines can do that.  Let your mother have whatever hope she needs to cling to until there truly is some kind of bad news that she has no choice but to deal with.  Everybody prepares for life in various ways, your mom seems to need and want to cling to hope.

Hoping things turn out well for both of you and glad you have a mother who cares about you.
