Neupogen usage

I am a Hep C geno I a and cleared using Pegasys and Ribo in 7 weeks.  Week 11 I had to lower my dosage of pegasys and then  stop treament when my Neutrophils went to 650 and total WBC 1200  I was taking a Neupogen injection every week since week 5 once a week (300mcgs)   and was responding at first but WBC was not staying up the entire week.   Doc fears I may need 2 shots a week and does not want to do that yet as he does not know what the long term effects could be if I need it for the next 40 weeks. What are the dangers or long term effects taking Neupogen at this rate, as I am anxious to continue treatment as I am a stage 3, 53 and showed early response.
Thanks for any info
Julie

I'm doing neupogen 3 X week and this is after 10 days on and a few days off for 2 months. But my neutrophil count has been 0 when I go off. My hematologist claims neupogen is safe and they have had patients on neupogen for a few years with no problems at all.

I'm sorry your doc took you off treatment because your Neuts went to 650--actually thats not seriously low to take you off treatment or lower your pegasis for.
I would think that 1 shot a week or 2 if he insists would get you back in some normal range...and keep you on treatment.. you've been doing so well.
I take neupogen ...have been since wk 3 (i'm in my 30's now)  sometimes I have to take 1 a week for weeks--sometimes I have to take them every other week-- it all depends on bloodwork...
Hope everything works out for you and you remain SVR..

jules,

I also have a problem with WBC and RBC,   Here is what my GI and I do, mine fluctuate a lot.

I did 2 injections of neupogen a week, when they get up to a acceptable range I stopped,

Now I am back to every 6 days,    So what we do is  react to my WBCs as needed.

Again this is my  soc,  ask your Doc about it.

Best of luck

Deb
